Default Clear Fluid Leak- 2013 Diesel

Hi all - I'm new to the Porsche family - we just purchased a 2013 Cayenne Diesel yesterday, so go easy on me!

Noticed some clear fluid (odorless, colorless when dapped with a white paper towel) coming from under the vehicle. Pics here. Should I be worried or is this AC condensate dripping off? (I live in Atlanta, very warm and humid...). We did have the vehicle inspected prior to purchasing and the tech noticed I was low on coolant. We had the dealer top it off before purchasing, because why not? My understanding is Cayenne coolant is a pinkish color, so my hope is this isn't the issue. Appreciate any guidance!

You should be good, as that is condensation as you rightly predicted. If it wasn’t under the vehicle it would be in the passenger floorboard, so take this as a good sign!

oh, and welcome to the family!

2 weeks ago I had a low coolant level warning. I topped it off and yesterday it came back on again. I took it to my indy mechanic and they identified the puddle down in the V of the engine. He said there's 3 possible places in there it could be coming from (oil cooler, something on the EGR and I forget the 3rd). They also asked me if I smelled diesel exhaust, which I have occasionally & pointed out a crack in the EGR pipe near the firewall where it joins into the turbo piping. Good excuse to do a delete & tune, I guess.

If you are out of warranty, ABSOLUTELY do the delete.

Interested in any updates or progress.

out of warranty. In fact, I took it in to the dealer with 119k miles when I was smelling coolant occasionally & they “couldn’t find anything”. I’m sure it was a smaller leak then, but still I suspect they didn’t try too hard or pressure test anything.

I am doing a full delete. Looking forward to not having 2 seconds of hesitation when you stomp on it in 1st!

My EGR had to replaced. Was getting error for months. Dealer finally found it. Lots of other coolant systems parts have already been replaced.

Interesting. This is the first EGR replacement I've heard about. What year and mileage?

Q7 TDi with 165K had magic disappearing coolant. No smell, no drip, no runs, no leaks, no errors.

Indy replaced water pump and all is good.

...but if it turns out that coolant disappears again, I'm sending this thread to my indy.

My coolant issues has been on and off for years.
When I would turn the car on, the temp would max out and I get error warning. Even though car is bone cold.
drive for 20 seconds and the temp gauge goes back to normal and error message gone. Would do it on and off while driving but if you stomp the gas it goes away.

I’d say it’s been 2 years coolant issues have been on and off. Many parts changed, some were faulty. Latest round of issues just came up again and now they think it’s the EGR cooler, so replacing it. Luckily it’s all under warranty.

These issues are more present in the cooler or winter months.

I’m hoping this fixes it and I’m going to move on from it. Warranty expires 2024.

Do you have to drop the engine on a 2013 cd diesel to change the water pump?

Ahhh im glad this thread popped up. I have a 2014 CD that got the engine out reseal and am starting to smell coolant and get coolant loss. Im at 120K miles so out of warantee but maybe I can get them to cover it as it started after the engine out reseal was done.

I saw a you tube video about changing the water pump on a diesel but it didn't specify the year. It looked like the water pump could be changed without pulling the motor but I am trying to clarify. The prices for the pump ran from about $69 to $300+ for the genuine Porsche pump- non of that included labor or the Porsche coolant.

Diesel water pump is on the front of the engine and is actually a pretty easy change. You should see evidence of coolant leak if it’s coming from the pump. I would recommend inserting a dry piece of a shop towel into the floor of the v and see if there is coolant leaking from the infamous areas listed above.

Mine was leaking up top in the V and never hitting the floor. MIght be something in my post history about it, but it was my indy that fixed it. Took it as an opportunity to do the ABC DEF EGR delete.
