Transmission fluid change procedure
I have a 2012 CTT and would like to change the fluid and filter. I will be using an icarscan tool for reading the transmission fluid temperature. After a search, I found on DIY instruction but it was not very clear.
Is there a good DIY for Transmission Fluid Change somewhere? |
When I did mine I used the instructions on AllDataDIY.com. There's an annual fee but it's well worth it if you're going to be doing your own wrenching and if you search around you can find a discount code to knock a few bucks off the cost. I only drained the transmission itself and replaced the filter but didn't open the rest of the system figuring I'll flush it a 2nd time after running it for a bit.
Changing the filter isn't terribly difficult but it can be pretty messy when dropping the pan as even though you've already drained the fluid all of the remaining fluid comes out. Had quite a bit of cleanup even though I had an extra large catch pan. Youtube had some helpful video as well. The biggest help was making a pressure tank to refill the transmission once everything was buttoned up. |
All data calls for a specific tool and temperature testing - this is one thing I may take elsewhere to get done

This pressure filler includes the necessary adapter and makes it a really easy process to fill the transmission quickly and accurately:

There is a very good DIY for a transmission change for our cars-either on this forum or 6speed. google search will pull it up. Lot's of pictures etc.. I've bought all the necessary stuff including the pump+VW tools+VW fluid+filter.- I went with the Mityvac MV6410 which came with the tools.

that MV6410 kit is not cheap so when adding all the costs up is it worth it to DIY? How much do they charge at the shop for transmission oil change?

Id say for a full filter and fluid replacement, you'd be looking at 1,000 at a dealer and 800 at an indy. |
From a quote from a very highly regarded shop in central NJ

To drain the pan and clean, replace filter, gasket, and fluid is $575 + tax |
The maintenance kit alone runs $450 at Suncoast. Seems like a very good deal.

No, the fluid is Ravenol and no indicator of who makes the other parts - i would be ok if it’s an oem supplier
|
Suncoast OEM kit $450 https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK958TRANS.html with 9 liters of fluid. It's a a good deal.
