Any consensus on the best sound settings for the Bose system?
To me it actually sounds worse with the surround turned ON.
The bass seems to be too overpowering also.
Thoughts?

I have surround on and linear sound on, can't remember the bass and treble settings. Without linear being on it gets artificially bassy on lot of music, might be good for acoustic music that sometime lacks low end. I really wish there was a user adjustable EQ in the Bose system.

I always crank the bass down to zero and up the treble - sound quality seems better to me, but I'm listening mostly to talk radio anyway. Not a fan of surround either.

By the way, each source has its own sound settings. You can tune the sound settings for FM, Sat, Bluetooth, etc individually. Switch to your desired source, then activate the sound settings screen.

I've definitely noticed I like it better moving the fader to the front. gets rid of some of the muddy base. which is interesting because the Bose in our Audi sounds MUCH better with the fader to the back. I guess each cabin is shaped differently.

I'm still not entirely sure what surround does, but it seems to be some sort of DSP. Some music sounds better with it and some sounds terrible. I leave it off.
As far as EQ, it would be really nice if they had a finer control (e.g., 1-1k hz, 1k-5k, etc.). As with most Bose systems, personally I find it has good bass and treble but lacks midrange. As such I have it at -2 and -2, and with the boomier rear speakers subdued I can then move the fader backwards one click. It's not the best car audio I've experienced but it's more than adequate and I find these settings help a little. YMMV.

The Bose definitely lacks mid range. I am in the camp of surround sound off. I also have set my balance to +1 on the right, and it somehow corrects and widens the sound stage, so everything doesn't sound like it is coming from the center. I tend to listen mostly to my iPod and a memory tick, so I have my treble at 0 and sometimes 1. I think my bass is at 2 or 3.
