Like, a Cayenne vs a Macan? Bigger vs smaller?

If I didn't need to tow anything (7,000 lbs), I doubt I'd have a Cayenne.

I really doubt I'd get either a Macan or Q5. No, make that there is NO way I'd own a Q5, regardless of motor.

I got your PM mafolo and will explain why here.

If I didn't need to tow anything, I doubt I'd have the Cayenne and I really doubt I'd have a Q5 or a Macan.

I used to have a pickup truck with an extra cab and a motorcycle. When my firstborn son came, after too many close calls on the motorcycle with other idiot drivers almost hitting me, I realized I had too much to live for and it was not worth getting taken out or hurt on the streetbike so I got a Corvette to commute in and life was awesome and I had planned on keeping the car forever, but then another kid came, my daughter. I had to trade the Corvette for a 4 door Corvette, a G8 GT. The sedan was great, 6.0L V8 RWD, fast, comfy.

Then one day came when I was towing the boat home and both kids were in their car seats in the truck. My wife says, "This is the last time I can ride in this truck with both kids in the back." as it was brutal with both front seats all the way forward as the rear cab was just not big enough for kids, even facing forward. Within one or two weeks I traded both the sedan and pickup for one 2012 Touareg TDI and then sold the Touareg for the 2016 CD.

If I had nothing to tow, I'd have some sports sedan that is fast and powerful and NOT a SUV of any kind. Maybe a Panamera, but not an SUV, either the Cayenne or the Macan or the Q5, that much I know.

I have never aspired to Porsche, Audi or BMW/Mercedes/Volvo-none of them. I feel into the Touareg as like the CD, for a truck that can tow 7,700 miles and get 20/30 mpg, I had to have it as it does/did it all. I do love the CD and think that the CD is just way better than the Touareg was but like I keep repeating, if I didn't have to tow anything I doubt I'd have one.

If I had no kids or, when the kids are gone and I don't have anything to tow, in fact, first chance I get, I'm going to have myself a C7, 2015+ Corvette convertible as none of the Porsche sports cars really does anything for me.

Ben, makes perfect sense to me. Weird things is as much as I like my wife's Panamera, My Lexus LS, and the Cayenne Diesel, my favorite car to drive is my daughter's VW Alltrack. Maybe I like looking at cars better than owning them. For a number of years I was "computer car shopping" to replace the LS (I'm a young guy for an LS). My wife gave me a hard time (in a funny way) about my car hunting. I finally decided I wanted a Cayenne Diesel. I found one, got a great deal, not the interior I wanted, but exterior is great. Problem is that the hunting is better than the getting. Now, I have decided that I am still really liking my LS, so she has suggested keeping both. That doesn't make sense.

I will say, it is tough. I just towed my enclosed trailer with both of my kids, the wife has the weekend off from us, and the tow and the ride was awesome.

We took the CD for a road trip from MA to FL and back and it was also a fantastic trip and I loved every minute in the CD. I know I would not like either the Q5 or the Macan as the space and height of the CD is a lot better for me, the wife and 2 kids and all our junk.

I know what you mean about the shopping/hunt. We get what we want and then we want either more or something else, it is the way it is and maybe, always has been but easier with the internet and the ability to either borrow money or just with so much more disposable income.

I can see why some like the Macan or Q5 as they still handle well but are higher up and have AWD and some good power.

My wife has just upgraded from Audi Q5 to Cayenne Diesel. In short: there is absolutely no comparison between the two. Even is we were comparing Q5 vs Macan (same size), Porsche wins hands down on ... basicly everything. It is just a much better car: better ride quality, much higher quality materials inside, much lower road noise, better looks etc.

Going from your Cayenne Diesel to Audi Q5 would be a HUGE downgrade. Don't do it.

I'll keep on admitting, that while I think that if I did not have to tow, that I might not have the CD, but I had my two kids and my 12 yo nephew-in law with me and we were on a mission to find a place for lunch and had gone up a 50 mph Rt 14 in central Vermont that had its share of "slow down to 30 mph" curves over bridges as well as high speed sweepers at from 65-75 mph as there are NO police on the rural roads up here that also happen to still be in incredibly good shape for the winters that the roads need to go through, and the Cayenne Diesel was just sublime on them. The way the truck handles is nothing short of incredible.

I'm either a hypocrite or just don't know what- is- what other than I'll cheerlead this 2016 CD until the end of its time or something better comes along for me, otherwise, I should be with this (great) thing for a while now.

My dealership has base Macan's as loaners. I don't like the car. The chassis tuning is very good, the DSG gearbox is fun, but the back seat leg room is non-existent (I'm 6' tall, 32" inseam, and can't drop my backpack into the footwell), and the road noise is much higher, on the same Pirelli Scorpion Verde tires.

I just don't feel it's worth the money.

Ha, that is a good one that I had forgotten about. If I didn't care about my backseat passengers, then sure, a Q5 or Macan would be fine as the Macan does handle incredibly well.

My sister in law, now that she has a 4yo, regrets her Q5 as it is now small for the three of them and all their stuff. She loved it when it was just her and her husband but now with one kid, is looking for something bigger. We sure are spoiled here in the US. Other countries would pack 6-8 people in it without a second thought.
