For a no mess oil change have you guys considered using a Fumoto valve

I had to use the q5 diesel because the Porsche and Volkswagen options weren't available

I thought a couple years ago, it was reported as hit or miss whether it would clear the cross member or not.

^^^ This

I bought one and even got their extension in hopes that it would help. No joy with that cross member. No idea if they changed the position at all on the 958.2 though, but I'd be surprised if they did.

Quick tip...Make sure you take note of the O-Ring position on the filter housing when you remove it...needs to go back into the same groove when you reinstall it

Did my first oil change on my '15 CD yesterday, used the Mitivac extractor to remove the old oil, it pulled out 7 liters plus, this beats getting under the car

I have the compressor powered version. Curious how many pumps it took to get all the oil out?

I always do it when the oil is hot. So is it like 10-20 pumps or 30-40? I was thinking about getting the manual pump version but don't want to be pumping a lot. It would interfere with my beer break.

Warm oil not very hot, 10 initial pumps, and then 3 a couple of times. It took about 20 minutes to pull 7 liters.

Hmm, good to know you can suck it out from the top. I have one of those extractors too. I usually just do it from the bottom since I have a lift in my garage, but if I don't have to deal with removing the belly pan, that makes life easier...

Thanks r553! Completed my first oil change on our '16 CD Saturday and all went well. Your procedure really helped.

The drain plug was a torx plug, T45 iirc. I guess the dealer replaced it when they put if up for CPO.

Considering the Fumoto drain, but feel just a tad uneasy about it...

I can be so cheap at times that for the $38 or so for the Fumoto valve, I think 'I can buy a lot of boxes of the nitrile gloves for that much and that turning the 6mm allen head(old) bolt is not too hard, plus, I get a free crush washer with every oil change kit from iDParts.com.' For me, it is just the money to spend as I have no reservations about how good it will work.

I make sure to just lightly snug the drain bolt so I don't ruin the oil pan at all.

Someday, if I ever feel like I might need it, I'll upgrade to the new Torx bolt for the oil drain.

Yes failure of the drain valve frightens me a little. I'm sticking with the improved drain plug.

A few posts back the comment was made if a dipstick could be applied to the 981. It can't. We can add the dipstick to the diesel engine because it came from VW/Audi where they used a dipstick.

Failure would not bother me one bit. In the other oil change thread that I had started, it was mentioned that the part of the bolt that extends up into the oil pan leaves that amount of oil in the sump so, knowing that, I will not consider the drain plug anymore and just deal with taking off an oily glove when taking the oil drain bolt out.
