So how do I know if I have PTV? I am running Motul 300LS for last 10k miles front and rear.
We can tell you definitively from your VIN if you wish to share it, or you can attempt to put your car in the third level of it’s off-road modes and see if it shows a message in the dash indicating that your rear differential has locked (which would mean that you do indeed have PTV+), or you can look underneath the back of the car for a cable loom plugged into the rear differential.

Much better now. No more crunchy walnut clutch chatter after replacing the emerald green Motul fluid with the factory fill that comes in the white Porsche bottle. 1.6 liters in and all is quiet again.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. I ordered the Porsche gear oil (and paid $44 a bottle) and received the VW oil.
When I contacted the dealer I was told VW is the replacement, improved oil that is used across the VW brands.
I've read many comments with problematic (noisy) differentials performing better with no noises after changing
to the Porsche fluid from other brands. Is it of the opinion the Porsche fluid developed for the older cayennes
may be superior (better suited) for older cayennes? The original fluid is still available and I would certainly use
it if it MAY perform better.
Could you kindly share the VW bottle photo or part #? How did it go?
Hi, I returned the VW fluid in hopes I could find the original porsche fluid. To date I have not found the original\
fluid. We have to use caution because you may order the original fluid by porsche part number. You will receive
VW fluid but at the porsche price. The invoice will state porsche and the porsche part number and you will receive
VW. The price difference is nearly double. Futhermore, according to get porsche parts silver spring, they will insist
you received what you ordered at the correct invoice price. They refused the return postage and lost a customer.
They were quite rude insisting I received exactly what I( ordered at the correct price. Looks like I will have to
purchase the VW fluid. I'm hopeful it will work as well as the porsche fluid, (not that we have a choice.)
Is it improved, updated fluid? Who knows.
Just get a few bottles of Motul 75/90 LS. You can get it on Amazon and it's delivered in one day. It's' a no brainer for some amazing fluid. You can place the in the front diff also. I just did a full drivetrain fluid change and used the Motul 75/90 LS in both the front and rear diff. You can put LS in the front diff but you can't put Non LS in the rear diff of a PTV vehicle. Just buy three bottles for both the front and rear and you'll be covered. Get 4 bottles to be safe as my first bottle tipped over and I lost a nice amount. That's where I found it on Amazon and it was at my front doorstep the following morning. Didn't skip a beat.
Thanks raudi. I tend to overthink at times. Reading posts on the ptv+ like on mine, I've
seen mention that the original porsche oil cured many differentials that were starting to
get noisy. I was attempting to find the original convinced it might be superior. It is no
longer available so I will order the motul, as so many others have.
Sent in samples of the "new" VW branded fluid (G 052 196 A2), which can be obtained cheaply from any VW dealership or parts seller, and a sample of the Porsche branded fluid, (000-043-305-03) , which is hard to find and appears to be out of production, to a lab for analysis.
I had to open both and found that the difference in color through the level window is an illusion caused by the different plastic used for the bottle. Oil analysis confirmed that they are identical.
I mixed the two bottles I had, a Porsche fluid and a VW branded, and got a partial refund on the VW branded fluid from my dealership for the confusion and stupidity of paying Porsche prices for VW branded products with a sticker slapped on it.
I recommend ordering the VW branded fluid directly for the cost savings. Walnut crushing symptom entirely alleviated after a day or two of driving. Raudi, I appreciate your deep knowledge and wisdom on these cars, and I'm glad it has worked for you, but several posts on the 'net and folks I spoke to offline told me the same story: 300LS, especially without additional friction modifier, performed poorly in their PTV+ diff compared to factory fluid. Perhaps early diffs are more sensitive?

Reason: Typo
Note that I run Motul 300LS in my PTV equipped CTT and that I needed to add an additional bottle of Ford friction modifier to keep the diff from chattering on tight corners. That said, the combo appears to work great.
I stumbled on a ferrari chat post where an owner had analysis done on motul and ravenol
differential fluid and noted less metal content with the ravenol product. I see a few posts where
ravenol fluid for the transfer case is highly regarded, many note less noise/better performance.

This is consistent with my experience using Motul products in the transfer case. I forget which product I used [DCTF plus friction modifier, I think], but it was not as smooth as the Ravenol for transfer case.
Interesting conversation. The Ravenol fluid is definitely well regarded for the Tcase, up there or even better than the OEM fluid according to some. Helped rejuvenate mine. Shame they don't make a compatible fluid for the PTV+ diff.

Well, DCTF is transmission fluid for dual clutch gearboxes, DSG, PDK etc... and not differentials.
I've run Motul Gear 75/90 LS in my diffs without issue. Quiet and super smooth no matter what I throw at it.
