So, Im thinking about buying a PIWIS tester. Without going into details about how much they are, liscencing, and assuming I have a fully functional dealer version, am I correct in assuming that the 1 can do everything that the 2 can do as it applies to a 2004 Cayenne?

Not sure if this helps your answer: I've had both systems and had the same functionality with the 1 system and 2 system for 996's and 957 cayenne's.

Im looking @ a piwis 1 based on Bosch kts 650. Why is it that you can do immob functions with the 1 while the 2 requires codes generated by Porsche?

Hmm; I still needed IPAS codes to reprogram the DME with both the 1 and 2 versions, if that's what you're referring to.

Yes. Can you elaborate on what ipas codes are and how they are obtained? Is there a fee or just required proof of ownership?

Thanks for all the help on the forum and thru PM's Garrett. Unfortunatly google is not your friend with the REAL PIWIS because there is little to no public info available and what is there is only half accurate. I found a great deal and it looks like I may be the owner of a really good PIWIS 1 soon!
