Exclamation Cayenne tiptronic issues!!!!

Hi all, first post so apologies! I have a 2003 cayenne s, and have a few issues....... The biggest at the moment being the tiptronic. It isn't working at the gear stick or the steering wheel..... However it does show up on the dash as in 'M' and not 'D' when I flick a button or push the lever across...... Any ideas?????? I only got it so not sure how long it has been doing it etc....... Also it won't change into the various wheel drive modes........ (The toggle beside the gear lever)......

I want to do a ATF change soon, but thought there might be something in the transmission I could check or change while in there?????

Thanks for any help....

Might want to read the manual. The tiptronic won't let you do stupid stuff with the transmission. It will override if need be, even in 'manual' mode. There is a delay in changing gears as well. If the conditions are met and it still isn't responding, then deeper testing will be needed. Which will include hooking up to the computer network. Without that you are going to just waste time poking at things.

Wheel drive modes needs to be in neutral and foot on the brake if I recall correctly.

Hi 69gaugeman,

Thanks for reply, but I wasn't intending to do anything silly with the transmission, rather more asking did anyone know if it could be an issue with a switch, solenoid, brittle wiring etc...... I have just received a disc with the PDF maintenance manual, so will have a look through that.

Also anyone know where I can get he software to hook up to a cayenne? And is there a budget version????

Are the lights for the wheel drive modes lighting up when you turn the car on?

As 69gaugeman said, the gear selector needs to be in neutral (it wont work in park) and foot on the brake for it to select the wheel mode.

The center console trim where the cupholders are comes off quite easily (its shown in the manual) so it might worth having a check for some broken wires under there. I doubt broken wires are causing the issue with the gear selector though

Durametric is the fairly inexpensive diagnostics tool and software to have. This is a must for any DIY troubleshooting where faults are involved. Without it you will be guessing and throwing parts at it.
