Default FX-45,Porsche Cayenne S or BMW X-5

No off roading but I have big dogs and want to have fun. This will be my only car. Trading in my Beemer 530I. Love a 996 but then I would need two cars. Can only get one. Heard great things about FX-45 and is cheaper. I've driven all three. They are all real good.

motopup:

I'd be interested in hearing your impressions of the three. I'm also considering the same 3 utes (plus a few others). The BMW seems like it's getting a little long in tooth, the FX's seems like the economical but fun choice, and the C seems like the best performance choice. Great interior but the FX looks pretty cool on the outside.

The X5 is old. The FX45 has a wonderful engine, but the styling, while very aggresive, is a bit overwrought and cartoonish IMHO. I also felt the interior plastics were a bit cheap. I thought the Porsche was the best choice overall with the best build quality by far. The Cayenne is built like the proverbial brick shi#%ouse.

The X5 is a fantastic vehicle. I nearly bought one, but fate stepped in and killed the deal. Then I drove a Cayenne, immediately forgot what an X5 even was and bought a Cayenne 1 week later! The FX45? Already looks like last year's prom dress - who cares.

It is identical to the '03 model except you can get it in Red also. I have the '03 model and think it is a great car!

Range Rover - Nice design both exterior and interior, luxurious, but I worry about reliability, and it seems a little "soft".

Yeah people have raised that as a potential issue before. On the upside it uses a very reliable BMW 4.4 engine (used in the 7 series and x5) and has a ZF (German) tranny. So I think you should be good on two of the high ticket items.

Mudman I read the first two pages of that other thread
and there is little of value there. I mean you have a guy
with a subaru yelling about having a forester turbo and
60K in his pocket. Its just a big flame war. At least here
there is some cognizant discussion.

Mudman:

I also took a look at the edmunds board and wasn't overly interested. I think that fellow porsche owners will have more similar standards in judging a car/suv than, say, someone who drives a camry, etc... our priorities are probably different. Are we breaking some sort of board "rule" by having a parallel discussion?

Frankly yes, it is a discussion which should be taken to other boards where this type of off topic stuff is better suited, this particular topic attracts
trolls which is why I suggested the thread over on the Roadfly board where trolls meet their friends and relatives.

This board is for Porsche Cayenne owners to share information and experience about the Cayenne not for general coffee machine chat on every other car which may or may not compete in the same market.

Owners don't care about that, their decisions were already made.

Default Cayenne Owners Forum

If this forum is for Cayenne owners, what should be done with the RennList Cayenne Owner's Forum? It seems to have fallen into disuse anyway. Maybe move the threads here (just in case someone wants to search an old topic) and close it.

Quick Reply: FX-45,Porsche Cayenne S or BMW X-5
