Default Headlight assembly will not come out..help!

955 Cayenne S and when I turn the headlight removal piece it simply spins and spins without the headlight assembly budging! I've removed the headlights plenty before and they worked just fine the last time I took them out, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas? Suggestions? It sounds like the metal piece that spins and pushes out the assembly is spinning correctly, but perhaps the plastic that it pushes on broke or something. Anyone know of any other way to remove the headlights?

Perhaps removing the wheel well liner will get you enough space to push out the assembly.
If the plastic tab on the underside is broken off then the only thing holding the lamp in would be the connector..
If I remember correctly that locking tab is pretty beefy.

The hex post drives a plastic pinion gear that rotates the securing bar, either to keep the cluster from sliding-out while driving and to push the cluster away from the wiring harness plug. Looks like that plastic gear has stripped...

If haven't already, try to wriggle and pull straight forward on the lamp housing while turning the key (might need a second pair hands). May be able to get it to catch just enough to release this way...

A suction cup on the headlight may help.
