Default Service Bulletin on Squealing Brakes

Has there been a Service Bulletin issued on the 'squealing brake' problem with the Cayenne brake pads? I thought this was a well-known problem and the cure was a simple replacement with a softer pad. My dealer apparently is unaware and wants to take my Cayenne for a ride to 'diagnose' the problem. -- Curt

I don't think there is a bulletin (as of 9/12/03). This is a common problem for all kinds of cars everywhere. Probably doesn't rate a bulletin.

Curt, I took my S into my dealer last week and the service advisor noticed that my brakes were squeaking and told me that Porsche put the wrong pads on the 03s, he had new pads put on (for nothing) and there is no more squeak and a lot less dust. The pads stop just like the old ones. Might ask your dealer about it, I did not hear anything about a service bullentin but my advisor told me that they were doing it for all of the early Cayennes. Good Luck.

Just got my TT back from dealer last week to install the rear brake pads that had been previously unavailable. Dealer elected to replace all four pads (fronts again!) and all four rotors...? (7500 miles)

In addition, to fix a "suspension burp" they replaced three struts.

Although they still can't find my missing "tire pressure monitoring menu", I'm definitely impressed with dealers renewed interest in "Customer Satisfaction"!

Thanks guys. My dealer is over an hour away so it is a bit inconvenient to just 'stop by' for them to check things. I'll probably do it this week though and see what they have to say. I have been extremely happy with the few contacts I've had with the service department so far.

Update: stopped by the dealer today. Brake pads are backordered at Porsche NA and aren't expected until mid-November!! Seems that 2-3 California dealers confiscated ALL the pads from the NA warehouse. There was supposed to be a guy at the warehouse who rations out the pads, but he was gone for a few days ........

So, the 'official' fix is new pads, new retainer hardware and re-surfacing of the rotors according to the district manager in my area (Michigan).

Maybe improve things. That little piece of legislation Davis just signed to require companies with 50 or more employees to provide medical coverage to workers and families needs to be repealed. Not likely to keep or help create jobs in the state.

Do anyone know if 2004 Cayennes are affected? Thanks for reply.

Brake pads or Arnold?

Re: Brake pads. Month of manufacture would probably matter whether they have squealing brakes. Mine was a July completion & my brakes squeal occaionally, but not bothersome.

Re: Arnold. No, the Hummer is not going to be the state bird.
