I took these of my TV watching the video that Porsche sent us when the Cayenne was first released, so they are grainy. Ngfan, is this it?

Yup, that's it. Very similar to the soon to be released panoramic roof option on the GM/Cadillac SUV's.....I believe GM even has a commercial showing it with their new models, I forget what they are calling it officially.

I'm still on the fence regarding this one, given Porsche's lack of success with the 993/996 Targa (squeaks and leaks).

 

GM has a great as in all of the major car magazines showing the "two navigation systems" in the new midsize Cadillac SUV. One is the nav system, the other is the stars (the view is from the inside with the new roof option open). Cool ad. Have you seen the Cayenne with the new roof in person? How does it work? It looks like three glass panels that simply slide back a la the 996s' Targa.

an early "long roof" showed a system very similar to the 996 Targa. "Translucent" panels would slide v. close to the rear fixed panel, with a retractable sunshade.

If the Cayenne is still on market in a few years I will probably trade for this option. After going through my current issues definitely after it has been proven.

 

Difficult to say from those grainy pics but I think this prototype version comes pretty close to what I saw at Leipzig. One sliding glass roof above the front and one above the rear seats and a fixed glass portion above the trunk area.
