Battery is farily simple to do.

Here's a how-to with pictures.

The only tricky part is finding the correct battery. I think the factory battery is a size H9, but I ended up going with a size H8 from Advance Auto for $185.

If you wind up going the Advance Auto route be sure to search online as there are usually $50 off coupons floating around. You'll need to order online with a store pickup but that's not a problem since you need to go to pick it up anyway.

If you have convenient access to an Interstate battery store, they sell a H9 that fits perfectly and is very reasonably priced at just over $200. Comes with the excellent Interstate warranty as well. The only difference from factory battery is that it's not an AGM design.

Beat me to it! Battery options here as well for reference on a good battery to go with.

was told to cross reference with a VW Toureg v8 model.
needs to be 95-110 amp hrs.
the vw dealer had one for approx $210. not sure if it was an exact match.
maybe someone can verify the direct replacement.

What exactly is an 'AGM' design?

**Edit**

So I hit the Google to educate myself. So is an AGM battery recommended for the Cayenne?

was told by porsche tech that a 2006 CS is not an AGM style battery. that type battery came on the next generation cayenne.
2006 still had the older style battery correct? is tech right?
also, if i do a battery install myself, will codes show up or will i need to do a reflash at the dealership?

Deka Gold 950 CCA battery is $135 and fits perfectly. You do not need Absorbed Glass Mat(AGM) technology for this car....

But AGM will last longer. My CS's first battery lasted 9 years. At $135, just get the real thing from VW (~$200). Small expense considering it will take you 60-70k miles. Also, being that it is under your ***, I like the idea of it operating at a cooler temp and not leaking acid...

Hmm... Not sure I believe that dealer. My CS is an 06 with the battery I replaced having an Apr 2006 date stamp on it. I'll have to look into that. I think the dealer might be mistaken. I might be also.

Either way, I have never seen a traditional battery that did not at some point leak, which is not what I would want occuring INSIDE my car, under my seat.

Just watch the video I posted, do exactly what it says, and for $200 you'll have a battery in there which will last you probably 6-7 years or more.
