So I am new to porsche and I am excited to be an eventual owner. My order is placed for delivery in December so have time to make changes. I just had a question about peoples opinion on Cayenne base vs Cayenne S. Specifically looking about pick up and everyday driving. Obviously the torque on the Cayenne S is 406 vs 295 for the Cayenne base. Just for perspective, I currently own a 2013 BMW 328i and love the pick up and do not think I would more. I wanted to see if the extra cost is worth it. I appreciate anyone's opinion.

Last June I decided to order a Cayenne to replace my 2010 4Runner. I wanted to have something fun in the Winter to complement my 997 Cab I drive in the Summer.
I started looking at the base but because of the face lift to 958.2 had to order a S or wait till the next spring. So I started with a S. But as I test drove dealers cars I realized there was a big difference between cars depending on options. I ended up with Air susp. ,PDCC, PTV. Also added roof rails, trailer hitch Bose etc.
I love the car I am so glad I test drove all those cars. Yes it was over 20k in options, but I see why Porsche has all these choices. You can get the kind of Vehicle you want.
I would have not been as happy with the base. The Turbo was more than I need or could afford. Every time I get in I'm excited just like my 911, but hey I'm a car nut. You should test drive Vehicles and get exactly what you want.
I personally would go for the S but if you are happy with your 328i I believe you would be happy with the base Cayenne. My wife drives a 335i and when we were test driving we took the 335 first for about 20 minutes. When we got in the 328 we decided to return to the dealer after about a mile as it felt too underpowered. We also felt the same between the base and S and bought the S.
S for sure. Even the S isn't enough pickup for me. I got the S to compliment my f-car for summer. I wouldn't second guess it. The only issue I have with the S is that the turbo 6 is tooooo tame.
I have thought about the diesel as well though I rather stick with gas. I will need to test drive the S and compare that to the base. As a side question, has anyone seen the LED lighting on the 2016 Cayenne? I was wondering if it is worth the cost.
So just went at lunch to test drive the Cayenne S, you guys are right a much better drive. You can feel the difference in the pick up compared to the base. Now I just need to convince the wife!!
