So why does Mobil, Shell, Castrol all recommend 5w-40?

Correct spec is 5w30, the VW derived V6s do not conform to the Porsche A40 recommended oil spec.

The owner's manual say 0-5w40-50.

But can use 5w30 to top off. But need an oil change after.

The bottle of 0w40 say for Vw too.
Wouldn't mind switching to 5w30. Easier to find.

Pls advice.

Thanks!

I went through all the documentation. And in the quick start guide(never open it) lol. In there say 0w30 for v6. Just double checking and FYI.

I'm sure 5w30 will work just fine.

I just rang up my local Porsche Dealer and he said they use 0w-40 oil for my car.

The Porsche A-40 spec specifically excludes V6 Volkswagen derived engines. According to Porsche the only place permitted for the usage of A-40 spec oils in V6 engines, is the PRC.

Maybe its different for USA.
Looking at s/h mine has had 0w-40 all its life and book also calls for this, so I will stick with it.

Cheers

The only place where there is a different recommendation is China.
