Replaced the Tiptronic Transmission Mount on a 2006 Cayenne S, V-8 4.5 L at 127,000 miles. New mount raised the Transmission up about half an inch and she shifts smoother then before.
Raise the vehicle on one side to have enough space under the car to work. Use a jack stand for safety. Using a piece of wood and a floor jack Support the Transmission just behind it's Mount. Position the jack far enough behind the transmission mount leaving enough clearance to remove and replace the three long bolts in the mount. The floor jack handle should be towards the rear of the car. With the Transmission Supported, remove the two bolts holding the Transmission to the Mount in the Cross Beam. These bolts should be replaced with NEW Bolts.
Remove the Transmission Cross Beam bolts from both sides and place it on a work bench. Mark a line from the lower center bolt hole to the Transmission Cross Beam to assist you with keeping the Transmission Mount lined up straight, when pressing the new Mount into the Cross Beam.
Using a large socket and a plastic hammer, bang the old Transmission Mount out of the Cross Beam or use a press. The old Mount is usually not very tight coming out.
The New Transmission Mount is encased with a hard thin plastic, not metal and must be lined up straight using the line you scratched from the lower center bolt to the Cross Beam. Otherwise the holes in the Transmission will not line up with the New Mount which will **** the Transmission and prematurely wear out the New Mount.
In order to easily get the New Transmission Mount started, straight, into the Cross Beam, file a taper all the way around one side of the hard plastic outer shell of the New Transmission Mount. Then using a piece of wood over the mount and a plastic hammer bang or seat the new Transmission Mount into the Cross Beam. Watch the alignment as it goes in and be careful to not crack the new Mount. Silicone may help or use a press.
Start the bolts on both sides of the Cross Beam then tighten to spec after they have all been started. Now attach the Transmission to the new Mount with the two New Bolts. It may be necessary to jack the Transmission Up to be able to align the bolts. Tighten bolts to Factory Spec use Blue, removable, Thread Locker.
