It's just a car

Her 996 has been rear ended a few times (only one that was more than cosmetic). It hurts when they get hit, but i would rather be hit in the 911 than any other car we've owned.

There is a pic of a 996 in RLOT that got tboned by a newer f150. Looks horrible, but apparently no harm to the driver and it was his door that was hit.

I trust that my 958 is just as safe, but i've seen enough serious 911 crashes over the years to know that they are damn good at protecting the occupants.

It does still hurt when they get dinged up though.

Of course I would quickly be served with divorce papers if i ever call home to tell her that her 911 was totaled while I was driving. No question where I rank around here...

I have a 2006 911S and I burn at least 1/3 quart every 1000 miles.

And you don't find that the least bit ridiculous? A healthy well assembled engine should not burn a significant amount of oil. If your OCI is 10k that means you are burning 3.3qts in that time I don't know what the capacity is in the 997S, but in our 996.1 that would be about a third of it's oil.

The "its a high performance engine so it should be expected" garbage is just that. A solid, healthy, and well built engine should not leak or burn it's oil and it boggles my mind that the Porsche crowd just accepts this as normal.

Certainly there will be a nominal amount of loss to where if you put 9qts in your aren't going to get all 9 back at the OCI, but nothing to the effect of needing to add oil (much less 3qts!!).

In almost 14 years and 70k-ish miles our 996 has never lost a significant amount of oil. So far in 17k my CD hasn't lost a significant amount of oil either (and it even has a bit of a leak I need to fight with PCNA about).

Thanks! After we came across the full leather interior in that color in the car we ended up buying, we focused on trying to find full leather in that color or the dark brown. Never found it. It still looks and smells new. Pretty amazing.
