Default New Tires - Downsized

Well 26,000 miles and the tires are down to the tread indicators. I really like the OEM 21" wheels on my 2010 GTS but the tire selection is limited and expensive. I could get a whole set to 20" wheels and tires for the same price as the 21" tires alone. Also the previous owner had scuffed the OEM rims and they needed refinishing, so I decided to try the 20" wheels, get my 21" refinished and if the 20's don't work out I can go back to the 21's.

I decided to go with 20" Turbo II replica's and Yoko Prada's in 275/40-20. Here are a few pictures showing the 21 and 20 setups.

Great post!

I'm going through the same turmoil right now. I need a snow set and a summer set and have my snows on the stock GTS wheels like you have. My wife strongly prefers the look of the stock GTS wheels but they are pricey. And with the exception of the Latitudes and Advans, all other 21's are back-ordered. I've been trying to get her to buy in on the Turbo II's but so far, no sale. Where did you get them? Offsets? Rim width?

I considered downsizing but the difference seemed too noticeable on other pictures. Your pictures would argue otherwise. Can't really tell those are 20's.

There is a deal now in some 20" OZ wheels for Cayenne. I got these for winters earlier this year. Very happy with the wheels. Heavier than my forged Champions, but not by much, and finish is very nice.

I got the wheels at ECS Tuning because I wanted the Turbo II style from a reputable dealer. 20x9.5, 5x130 bolt pattern, comes in black or gunmetal accents. Not sure on the offset, but there is plenty of clearance for the calipers.

A few more pictures. The 20s don't fill the wheel wells as much as the 21's being that the 275/40-20 tires are about an inch narrower. Also I wanted to point out the Turbo Style wheel protrudes out further than the tire so watch those curbs.

They look great! The offset also doesn't help make them flush, should be et40-35, not the other way. But sapcers can solve that problem if it really bothers you Been thinking about doing the same, more for weight purposes though. Thinking about some Forgestar CF10s, ~24lbs compared to the stock GTS wheel weight of ~38lbs. I would love to keep the wheels in the Porsche family, however I don't know any "lightweight" wheels for the pig in 20" or 21".

OK, bit the bullet and went for 20's after the missus agreed sourcing 21's for our 10 spoke GTS wheels was a serious PITA.

Be prepared to cringe, but a bought a set of replica Turbo II's off eBay. ECS was sold out until September. Bought 20 X 9.5 with ET 42. Put on a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW. According to calculations, this would put the rim approx 2mm MORE outward than my GTS wheels. The wheels seem to be good quality and we haven't died in a firery crash yet.

A couple observations. The ride is vastly improved, even in Sport. And the car seems a little more spry since the wheel/tire combo is significantly lighter. Don't ask how much, I don't own a bathroom scale. Additionally the combo shortens the gearing slightly as the combo is a bit shorter.

Subsequently, I bought a set of 15mm spacers and new lugs and love the look.

Now onto Durametric for a permanently lowered stance.

Below are before and after pictures of the rear before and after spacers and a side view (not great) after spacers.
