These are more than simple ballast units. They are, in fact, control units possessing a CANbus interface to facilitate the auto-leveling function. These units ALSO include the ballast necessary for "starting" the Xenon light bulb (the D1S bulb). And just so you know, the dealer will need to perform the vehicle leveling and programming of the new control unit following installation. You should watch them do it as it's pretty interesting to see the Cayenne articulate movement at all four corners.

Just my suggestion, but I would go with the OEM part to avoid any issues with all of the other control units on the CAN bus in your car.

If the light is flickering slightly, it is most likely the bulb. I bought mine for the Treg for 25$ on ebay. Fixed the problem.
I would buy one off ebay if the seller says it is compatible. Ebay has a pretty good procedure of getting your money back if it doesn't work properly. Has worked for me before when I bought a computer that wasn't as advertised...

Same problem here: flickering headlamp, confirmed it's the control unit by swapping left for right. Got a good-used control unit, not the same part as my original, and while the headlamp works fine now, the control unit won't talk to the car. I get a "System Fault" in the dash (very angry!). In Durametric, two codes that won't clear: 1299 - Gateway no signal, 3294 - LH headlamp control unit.
The original part is Porsche's p/n 955-631-194-00, Hella p/n 5DC 009 285-00, with hardware version 3.0, software version VR 7.0, diagnostic ID 7. The good-used came from a Benz with Hella p/n 5DC 009 600-00, software 15-06, hardware 08-06, diagnostic id 0002.
Has anyone had success in replacing the control unit with anything other than a Porsche part? What part did you use?

Headlight control unit
Hi
Did anyone figure out if I can simply replace the unit with an older same unit, or do I need the dealer to do the upgraded ones, and then do a whole leveling of the lights. The cost is insane. They wanted 1k plus for the two replacements and upgraded units.

Did you try the Panamera headlight control unit?
Did you try the Panamera headlight control unit? I was told it is the same Hella part as Cayenne according to a German website. How did you fix your problem at the end?

Did anyone ever figure this out? Im supposed to get a new headlight assembly from the dealer but they are on backorder until who knows when. I’m worried that the ballast on the new assembly will not be the same version as what is in the passenger side assembly. My driver’s side ballast has something rattling around in it when I shake it. capacitor probably broke loose.
ebay has nothing for a ballast with the same HW version, SW version and Diagnostic ID.

It’s definitely the issue. low beams do not work. high beams are fine. I do have some friends that know this stuff. the problem is, the ballast is sealed shut.

That looks nasty but repairable - The component above the one which has overheated has broken away from the pads (which might be the cause of the initial flickering) . There is also a resistor burned out top right. Any competent techie should be able to replace the components and get you going again.
