Default heated steering wheel gremlin

question: 2008S with heated seats and steering wheel. When it is off (number 0) I still feel heat in the steering wheel. I turn it to 2 or 3 and the set heats up and the wheel gets hotter but then turned back to 0 and seat is off but wheel stays on although at lower temperature, but 20 minutes later wheel starts to heat again. Sometimes heats even on 0 ????? bad 0-10 swith on driver side or something in the steering wheel? anyone have this?

The way I read the operation for the steering wheel is that it is independent of the seats. It is on its own external circuit depending on a number of external factors, like internal and external temp. Mine comes on when its cold, but I never felt it to be too "hot". something with some sensor may be wrong, but I don't think it is tied to the seat temp.

There is no control for the wheel, seats are independent of anything else

My 2014 has the control for the wheel on the bottom back of the wheel. On off. Seats separate.

The multi function steering wheel illumination on 955 and 957 are controlled by 2 buttons on the rear of the wheel, both buttons turn it on or off

The left button on the back of the steering wheel should turn off and on the lights in the steering wheel. The right button should turn the steering wheel heater off and on. At least it is on 1st gen. Stupid that they don't have an indicator that says the heated wheel is on. Even if you had to look in the MFD down a few menus.

The wheel will shut off once the cabin gets up to temp.

I couldn't live without the heated steering wheel, now that I have one. Pure delight on those frosty mornings!

And yes the heated seat switch has nothing to do with the steering wheel.

That's how it worked in the 04 I just bought. Haven't read the manual though. I will do that to confirm. Interesting that the right button didn't do anything with the lights when I was playing with it. Maybe there is a problem with mine... I will check and update when I get delivery. I AM getting old......

its ok, this was a big thing when we found the buttons, in daylight you can't see them do anything. I would suspect one of your is broken so unless you only have one arm you should be ok

I wasn't aware of that. Not sure they have that option anymore. I haven't seen it referenced anywhere so far. I'll check it out.

The switch I was talking about is in the center bottom back of wheel and turns the steering wheel heat on and off. A message pops up on the dash when you turn it on or off but no long term indication. I have yet to have it shut off unless I do so manually. It gets pretty hot and yes it is a nice option. I didn't think much of it until I had it.

1 button on the back of the 958 wheel. Just heat.
