Yeah, gonna throw myself in with Group B here.

I owned an '87 Mustang GT convertible with a 5 speed, living in KCMO at the time. Needless to say, driving on pretty much any amount of snow was dicey at best. I went out and bought a pair of steelies from a junkyard and put the most aggressive straight-up snow tires I could find on them. I stuck them on the back from December to March and it was a world of difference. The car went from undriveable to unstoppable.

The comment about summer tires in the winter being a death sentence, was about summer tires on cold dry pavement. Of course snow tires are better on the snow. Good grief.

I just picked up my 05 CTT Friday, and got to romp around in 3-5 additional inches of snow, and I can say IMHO...the Cayenne (w/ Pirelli scorpions) is the best handling vehicle I have driven in over 28 years. Absolutely no drift when changing lanes in partially plowed roads. Cornering, starts, stops all predictable, stable and confidence inspiring.

Living in Buffalo/Western NY, one learns quickly how to drive in miserable winter conditions. Snow tires will make all the difference on ANY vehicle, but the feeling on the Cayenne.....WOW. Had a 2001 A4 with summer performance tires one year in Hartford, and with a dusting of snow it felt like I was driving a Zamboni with racing slicks. Not enough snow to warrant a set of winters though, just had to leave an hour early for my 4 mile commute : ).

Back in the '80s I had a 944 with summer tires. If there was ANY top of uphill slope and I was stopped, there was no way to get moving again. Every turn was an adventure waiting to see if the car was going to turn or if I was going to need to use the throttle to keep the car on the road.

Drove it for two winters like that, so sure, it can be done, but with snow tires on the car, I drove through a snowstorm in Colorado at well over the posted speed limit with no excitement at all.

Thanks for the video, my problem was not the flat stuff. I drove 5 miles, flat, and spirited having fun, before I realized I barely made it up a 5% and started sliding down a 5% grade.
