Burning Brakes
We have a 2010 X5 35d and the twin turbo diesel is fast and tows great! We have a 14ft enclosed 2 horse trailer with dressing room. 7'6" interior height and it pulls it fully loaded with ease (6200lbs) while getting 14mpg.
The new motor is step backwards with the single turbo and less power . . . The twin basically has zero lag and will get up and go!!! Unloaded, we get 25 on the highway loaded with the family.
Unfortunately she will have to find a new home since we have to get a bigger gooseneck 4 horse trailer so I had to get a Cummins turbo diesel so it can pull the 11-12K work of equine plus supplies and tact for the wife!!! The X5d will go on sale officially in about 2 weeks . . .

OP, what did you decide to do afterall? I am also in the same boat... albeit either '14 Cayenne or wait for '15.
X5 seems to be much better for carrying stuff and a bigger car, Cayenne while having decent legroom in the back, has a very narrow rear hatch opening (not sure why), which totally limits its cargo capacity. Touareg, and even older Cayenne has a much wider opening.

We are looking at a 2015 X5 diesel and a new CD. Anyone update to this thread on the two? X5 seems ahead on technology and the free maintenance. We are buying, so not sure which will have better long term reliability. Thanks!

Just ordered a 2015 X5 diesel. I compared it directly to the CD. The CD is roughly about $10k more for less technology, less space and less efficiency. The X5 was just an all around better deal and more value for money IMO.
I equipped it in Space Grey w/ the M-Sport package so it looks better and I get the sport seats.
IMHO, if you want a sports car, you buy Porsche. If you want a "regular" car or utility car, you get much more value for your money by looking at BMW, Audi, Merc, etc ... Just my two-cents.

Kosmo - excellent point that I completely forgot about. I get 4 years/50k miles included maintenance. Includes everything except tires really...

also just decided on a 2015 x5d over the CD... more value, better technology, and lower cost of ownership. Porsche will fulfill the toy category, while BMW takes care of daily driver/utility duties !
