Default POS space saving spare

So here I sit waiting for a tow after getting a flat because my piece of siht space saver wont I old air. Its just leaking around the rim. I've always wondered about these things.

Someone almost ran me off the road and I ran over a rounded curb with my RR wheel. Seems to have just popped the bead off the rim. Hopefully I wont need new tires.

It is a good practice to check the pressure of ALL of your tires at least once a month. Since space savers can sit for years without use, they rot and lose air.

My space saver has to be inflated after it is removed from the storage area in the back.

Don't know what space saver you have but I don't believe any Porsche space saver is stored with air, that's why they include the air pump.

Do you really expect them to test inflate the spare for a CPO inspection?

If the spare is inflated to check it, will it collapse back to the original compact size and fit in its space?

Sometimes tires which are completely deflated fail to expand with low pressure pumps....Try using a gas station air pump and they will inflate.

Yes. I do expect the spare to be inspected for a CPO. How long would it take? 5-10 minutes while its in the service bay. What if it was bald or gashed?

How are you supposed to 'use a gas station air pump' when youre on the side of the road? I was pissed, how the heck does this happen? And Im quite mechanical, so it wasnt operator error.

From the manual

After using the collapsible spare wheel
I> Release air by unscrewing the valve insert. The tire will revert to its original shape only after several hours. Only then can it be stowed in the spare wheel recess in the luggage compartment.

I know the 996 C2 (at least the Mk I) came with a what most people refer to as a space saver and as such did not include an air pump. Since that area in the frunk was taken up by the front diff in the C4, however, it came with the "build it your self" spare and air pump. For most people a space saver spare is a wheel/tire that does not match your normal wheels (usually being much thinner).

This thread does remind me that it's been years since I last testing the 996's inflatable spare. I should do that...

Not with my P!g's, but with her 996's. The 996 has much less space for the wheel storage, but it goes back in.

If not for the inflatable spare, Cayennes might be fitted with miserable run-flat tires.
