Looking at 2009 GTS and 2010 base, issues/concerns?
I am looking seriously at a 2009 GTS (47,000 miles) and a 2010 base V6 model (23,000 miles). Of course, I realize these are very different vehicles. My "fun" side says buy the GTS, while the practical side of me favors the 2010.
Both vehicles are reasonably priced for what they are, and I am in a position to purchase an extended warranty on either.
Should I be concerned about the 47,000 miles on the GTS?

You'll probably need to list options on both for the Group to give you a solid answer. Frex, my 957 has the air suspension and based on my limited experience with it, I'd not do without it again.

This may seem like an obvious question, but why do you see the air suspension as essential?
I can live with/without the extra GTS options (of course they would be nice !) and both vehicles are priced fairly given their option packages. I am more concerned with reliability and resale in 3-4 years.

Assuming that you get a Porsche CPO warranty, I'd get the GTS. Waaay more fun to drive.
Air suspension is great for towing, lowering the car for loading and raising it in the winter in heavy snow. If you have no use for any of these applications, you don't need air suspension.

I don't know where the OP is located but I believe all US GTSs had air suspension. If you like driving, the GTS is the one which bring the biggest smile to your face.

The GTS is more optioned up, items it has that the base V6 does not include back-up camera and premium sound system.

Drive both, and you'll know where to spend your money.
I wouldn't worry about 47k miles on the GTS. It's a solid car, one of the biggest issues is the driveshaft bearing support failure, which will affect both of the cayennes you are looking at. It's a relitevely easy fix though.

You'll clearly be happier in the GTS, so not sure why a V6 version is even in the running. You're looking at the GTS for fun with some level of practicality, the V6 will give up the fun factor.
I'd say the GTS is the better financial buy because it's take a great hit in depreciation. Plus, there are fewer of them which usually helps value.
But for arguments sake, lets say hte GTS will have $3-4K more depreciation. Over your projected ownership period tha's not a lot of money on a monthly/ daily basis relative to the driving enjoyment leap over the V6.
Which brings us back to why the V6 is in the running. It may be slightly better in handling and finish than a Touareg, but if practical considerations are primary, then a Touareg is probably your better choice. Unless the brand is what's important.

automatic, so 8-speed tip, right? Are you having problems with it - or just not your cup of tea? I almost went with the 6 speed GTS, but its going to be my daily driver and I already have a 2 seater sports car and need the convenience of automatic.

The manual GTS is an odd duck. Gearing is way too low in first, and the shifter throws are way too long to be enjoyable. It just seems too compromised; it's a truck that handles well but not as well as a sports car, with a manual transmission that managers to remove some of the driving involvement.
There was a member on here a month or so ago who purchased a manual GTS without driving it first. Hated it and had it up for sale in a few days.
There is nothing wrong with either transmission, but if anyone is seriously considering the manual, they need to drive it first.

No problems. It works fine (6 speed). I am not used to an auto and find it sometimes shifts at odd points. I'm so used to a clutch manual that this is taking some accommodations on my part. No doubt the car feels the same way.
