Cayenne steering noise - with video. Please Help!
Hi All,
I'm new the forum and having a problem with my 2009 Cayenne.
For the last month or 2, I've been getting a squeak when steering. It usually starts after about 10 min of driving and happens even with the slightest turn of the steering wheel to the left or right. Weather does not seem to matter (hot or cold).
I found a video link with the exact same sound on youtube. It sounds most clear and similar to the noise I'm having between the 50sec - 1min mark
so far I"ve tried spraying a lot of lubricant in the spot where the steering column goes through the firewall. That didn't do it.
Does anyone have any idea what this is?

I had the same noise. It was a heat shield rubbing against the steering shaft. Open the hood and look down by the DS exhaust. Have someone turn the wheel. I bent it with a lond prybar and it is all good now.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I had my wife turn the steering wheel while I had the hood open with my flashlight. I couldn't see a whole lot. I could see the steering shaft coming out of the firewall, but not much else.
I'll try to take another look after having driven for a bit and the noise is loud. Until then, any other tips on how to get a better look?
Much appreciated!

Hi all,
I took my Cayenne in to be checked today. Not the dealership, but to a really good local shop - Scan Auto in North Vancouver. They could not find anything mechanically wrong with the steering and would need it longer to figure out the noise. However, they did spray some rubber grease where the steering shaft goes through the firewall. The noise went a way temporarily, but was back after about 20min of driving.
Would anyone suggest changing the steering shaft rubber sleeve? maybe the rubber down there is just eff'd? parts don't seem to be that expensive, but is that a big job? I'll probably check with the shop when I take it back next.
Thanks,

I think I may look into getting the Steering sealing sleeve (95534703703) replaced and see if that does the trick. The part is around $60 but I'm not sure how big of a job it is. Does anyone have an idea?
