Default Lost ALL chimes and signal sounds

No signal clicking, no door chime, no seat belt warning. I know most of you would be in heaven, but the silence is deafening.
All signal lights work, and seat belt symbols appear in the dash, just no sound.
Is there a fuse that controls these or did my "speaker" just die. The door chime sounded very strange this morning on startup and then went dead...

It's likely just the speaker in the instrument cluster. It can be replaced if you find a suitable replacement and solder it in. Otherwise you need to buy a whole new instrument cluster.

I'll trade you my works-too-well chime speaker for your dead chime speaker.....

Thanks, XR4Tim, - The "buy a whole new instrument cluster" is not going to happen.
Does anyone know what kind of speaker is in the cluster? Or equivalent?
This is definitely a cluster F#!} because it will still need to be coded after fixing & reinstallation.
Maybe the silence isn't so bad...

I was planning to have mine fixed under CPO warranty (electronics are covered), but I wonder if the dealer will balk if it means an entire new cluster. I assume they swap the instruments into a new facia.

Can't stand the sound of the seat belt warning and door open warning. Very rude. Wish I could change them.

This is a link I found for the speaker. The price is highway robbery, but it is the correct one.

I don't know where I saw it but someone got a speaker close in ohms and size and super glued it in, cost them much less than 84 dollars, probably under 10.

edit: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...isplay-repair/ Is the link to rentech, says the speaker is $2 bux...

Finally got around to fixing the speaker:

I found the part number of the speaker and tried to source it direct from Germany, the manufacturer’s min order qty was 1000pcs (and no US distributor). I found a seller on a Touareg forum offering the exact speaker, for $90 (a $2 speaker).

The speaker is 32ohm, I sourced a similar speaker on ebay for $3. It was 2mm smaller in dia so it did not snap into the back of the cluster perfectly; I used a little JB weld to hold it in place. I cut the wires and connector off the old speaker and soldered them to the new one (the clear/white speaker is the failed unit). The toughest part of the job was getting the cluster out.
FYI, the cheapest turbo cluster I found was $1700.

Hope this helps someone,

Thx, Stu
PS, the sound and volume are perfect.

I just did this repair:

Search for my thread "fixed warning and turn signal chime"

I used this speker:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Miniature-...item51a7a79f2c

There's a DIY on renntech for removing the cluster, the whole job took me a couple of hrs and $10 for the speaker.

I've replaced a couple of instrument clusters under CPO for this very reason, so you shouldn't have trouble.

The seat belt gong can be turned off with a scan tool.

Now you tell us....

I would have had that done a loong time ago if I had known. That seat belt chime is annoying (yes I do wear my seatbelt).

I wonder if the Durametric can do this too? I have to hook it up since I changed the oil last w/e so I'll check.

Thanks again.

Edit: BTW, just checked Durametric's site, the current version is 6.3.1.7, I'm updating mine now.
