So my new to me Cayenne S is running very well. No issues thus far. I have a question regarding the display in the center of the dash as it relates to the gear the transmission is in.

Regardless of being in Drive or the Tiptronic side, it starts in 2 (D2 or M2) the display never says M1 or D1. Even at a complete standstill, I start at D2 or M2. As I drive and the gears shift normally, it will display the appropriate gear from 2-6. Is this the way it is supposed to be? Am I missing something?

 

I've noticed mine tends to start in D1 from stone cold, but D2 once it warms up.

Other than that, it's the same as your description. But you can of course manually change down to M1 (or D1) when you're at a standstill if you want to.

 

Your Cayenne will start in 1 first gear only when It is cold to help get the engine and smog systems up to temp. If you want it in first gear you can use to buttons ( + - ) on the steering wheel to drown shift into first gear you are at a complete stop.....
