Default Bad smell comes out from driver side engine compartment

A common Cayenne V8 problem is to have Bad smell comes from driver side engine compartment after 50 ~ 60K miles. Because of oil leak comes from valve cover gasket, oil split on the Exhaust header and catalyst body.

To solve this issue you need to replace the valve cover gasket, it is not an easy job, need 5to 7 hours but it can be done at home garage,
You will suffer when removing the last screw in the inner corner, you need to buy short T socket with small handle to help you unscrew some screws in tight areas (no space to keep your hand in).
Second obstacle is a wire crossing the valve cover and prevent you from pulling the cover out, note this wire is going all the way down to Air condition compressor beneath the engine (driver side), go down and un plug the wire socket from compressor body then pull the wire up to valve cover side to give you enough clearance to remove the valve cover.
Note: valve cover gasket comes three parts (main gasket, and plug gasket & O ring gasket for sensor on cover)
