Default Lightest hitch mount bike rack?

I'm looking for a 3 bike hitch mounted rack that is significantly lighter than my 10 year old Thule rack - which is great but is a pain to mount. I have the factory hitch mount on the Cayenne S.

Default I got the Thule 972XT Helium

reviews said that's the lightest and still sturdy.

Have you checked with Porsche? They have a modular rack. Part no. 955 044 000 60 is the basic 2 bike unit, Part no. 955 044 000 61 is the expansion module. Includes lighting package.

But will it work properly on a US standard hitch? From the manual (link attached), it clamps to the European retractable hitch ball with no other support. I really like the design compared to the others I have seen. If I had confidence that it would stay in position on a US made hitch ball, I would buy it. Anyone with experience with this unit?

The closest unit is the 1upusa carrier, which does work.

I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the US-version plugged into the 2x2 receiver. But either way, I'm not sure why that should be considered an issue. The Euro-ball is 5cm, which is essentially 2 inches. 1.968504 inches to be exact.

Hello,

You may wish to check out the KUAT line of racks. They are top notch and very light-weight as they are aluminum. I think they have a rather nice appearance as well. (no, I am not associated with them at all).
