Default Windows Steaming Up When It Rains?

Hi all

The windows on my 2004 CTT are steaming up when its raining. I have just had the water drains emptied of sloshing water so assume they arent full again so quickly but in fairly heavy rain today the windows started to steam up so much so that i had to drop a window to let some air in.

I had the air con on auto to start with which let the windows steam up a lot, i then changed it to a manual setting and blasted air directly onto the screen which cleared it mainly but not fully and the side windows were still steamed up.

I tried the air reciruclation buttons and they steamed it up again, whats going wrong? The air con was regassed 6 months ago according to the history of files i got with the car, could it have leaked out and this is the problem or is it more likely to be wet carpets from blocked drains?

Thanks

Carl

Is the air con set to "on" or "econ"? I have noticed fogging problems going the "econ" route.

Set to on, don't use Econ to be honest.

The supplying dealer has said bring it in and we will have a look but they aren't a Porsche dealer by any means and i want to be able to point them in the right direction with it first.

I always thought "Econ" was just open vents (except when you turn up the temp you get heat).

Maybe I need to re-read the owner's manual....

Have you checked your floor mats for wetness? From reading other threads about sloshing water it seems to go hand in hand with water getting in the cabin. If you have water in the cabin, that would explain your fogging issues.

Or more accurately, turns off the compressor.

Briefly yes and all dry. Its much clearer when its not raining outside and i assume that if its wet inside then it will steam up all the time due to condensation inside the cabin?

My aircon chirps like a bird, is this normal?

One thing that i did wonder was if the vents to the cabin are blocked since the bottom of the windscreen steamed up the most, there was a line along the bottom, is this linked?

Maybe the windscreen vent is set to the off position?

Update :-

This morning it was dry so i left the aircon on its usual setting of auto mode and at 22 Celsius and it was fine all the way to work (30 min drive).

Tonight leaving the office it was raining and within 10 mins of driving the front window started to steam up and if i breathed out it got worse

Anyway, after reading some threads about lowering the temperature i dropped it to 19 Celsius and it started to improve. It didnt clear it totally, there was a small amount in the very bottom corner of the drivers side windscreen and a small section on the drivers side front door glass just above the controls for the mirrors but apart from that it helped a lot.

I then put the temperature back to 22 Celsius and within 30 seconds it steamed up again.

What will cause this?

Thanks

Carl

I'm a dopey Englishman who didn't bother to convert to F

19 = 66

22 = 71

Any ideas on the problem?

Well quite obviously the problem is humidity. But the question is why. When's the last time you changed your cabin filter?
