Please HELP track down my coolant leak

I have a slow leak of coolant some where and it has been driving me ABSOLUTELY nuts.

I have a 2005 and it has the updated Aluminum pipes. I took off the intake manifold already and dont see any signs of leaks from up top.

I know I smell it on the passenger side of the engine up front somewhere. I dont see any white residue that would help me find the leak.. any recommedations on where to check while the intake manifold is off?

Water pump? T connection, although not up front might be good to change while intake off.

Does water pump leak?

A- are u loosing fluid or are you just smelling coolant?
if you recently had the pipes done the smell takes a while to dissipate.
B-Check under the water pump if you had the water pump replaced during the pipe repair. The bolts holding on the water pump are very light torque and sometime are overtightened, stripping the threads on the block and lose grip.

pipes were done last year.. i am loosing coolant but its super slow..maybe 1oz a week?

water pump was not changed during the coolant pipe update.. just thermostat.

if you can rule out under the intake, time to get under it and find some drips. oil look good? no milky oil?

VIPNiSS 10-23-2012 08:44 PM

Oil is good. Think I found where it's landing but don't know where it's coming from.

This shot is from underneath the car looking straight up from the passenger side. . I see it on the fan shroud.

Maybe try some sort of dye that can be picked up with a black light?

only so many places it can come out. radiator, hose fittings. Id keep plastics off, run the the p!g and lie under it for a while with a flashlight. At the shop id pressurize the system and force the leak. Got a reliable indy?

with seeing it on the fan shroud and cover underneath at that location it can't be the water pump can it?

VIPNiSS 10-23-2012 10:05 PM

Also look at what my engine torque bar looked like when I removed it to get to the intake manifold... yes i did order a new one already..

from seeing the plastics a guess its prob not, pump in middle of motor up front.

Does anyone have a diagram to show me what hoses/fittings are on the passenger side of the vehicle to look for? I dont think its a radiator because its on the fan shroud and i dont think the cayenne has known issues with that.. mine is a 2005 with only 64k miles... common sense is telling me a cracked hose/fitting someone on that side. I only see the residue starting half way down the fan shroud..

I wonder if AutoZone has a cooling pressure tester made to fit our cap?

I see they loan this one out.. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ier=84330_0_0_

I recently change my pipes and I checked a kit out from Advance Auto Parts that includes an adapter that will expand to fit any opening. However, you will need someone to help hold the fitting in so that the pressure does not pop the fitting out while you pump the handle.
