Strange whining noise from 65mph to 80 mph

My '04 S has the same sound. It gets pretty loud, but everything still keeps turning. I've put 10,000 km onto it so far, without a change to the sound.
It's not: front lower control arms or the right front quarter shaft (which contains the wheel bearing). I changed the fluid in the front differential. Winter snows moderated the whine a bit, but it's hard to tell. New power steering fluid didn't affect the sound. Neither did the brake fluid flush.
The thing to remember is that the Cayenne's a 5400 lb, heavy-duty machine which functions at a very high level of performance. I've decided it's just not very quiet. If I want silence, I'll drive the Lexus. Funny, I haven't driven that car in three months.
A man gets used to the song his axle sings, I guess, and if a passenger complains, he doesn't get invited back.
EDIT:
As a novice owner I read all threads about gear noise on this site. Several owners solved the problem by selling the car. The rest eventually quit complaining about it.
