Default Car won't recognize USB

I'm stretching here because I don't know how much is the same between the Cayenne and the Panamera. I've had no luck in the Pano forum with this Q.

My 2012 Pano S has the Bose stereo with an USB port in the storage console for iPod or USB memory stick. I put in a USB memory stick but the car doesn't see it. The manual says that not all devices are recognized. Anyone ever done this, had issues or a similar problem (and hopefully a resolution)?

I don't have an iPod.

Thanks!

yes, the P!g and the Porker both share the same infotainment design and components.

no, you are not allowed to use the word "Panorama" in this forum without a brown paper bag over your head.

may I ask how the USB memory stick was formatted?
may I ask what content/files are on the USB memory stick?
may I ask if the dealer has demonstrated to you a properly functioning USB memory stick in your vehicle?

OK, but it makes it really hard to see the screen...

Yes, you may ask.

Please, feel free to ask anything.

It was really late by the time we finished the deal and did the delivery, no one had a stick, and I didn't think to ask. I suppose I could return and ask, but I doubt that they know more than you or anyone else here.

I have no idea how the stick was formatted. I bought it, stuck it in my Windows XP computer, copied files over. Do you have a recommendation?

The USB memory stick contains folders (artist) with sub-folders (albums) containing mp3 files. That's all.

Thanks!

Several possibilities....

1. You forgot to ... Very common cause, usually attributed to the fact that you forgot to cut the allowed 2 small eye openings in the Porsche Design Exclusive bag...there is a TSB for that.

2. The head unit has a defective USB interface/connector ... Less likely

3. There is a folder/file structure on the purchased USB memory stick that the head unit does not like nor recognize.

I would humbly suggest that you insert the USB drive back into your computer, format it (the USB drive, nit your C:\ drive) and then copy a single .mp3 file onto the USB drive and try again.

BTW, IIRC, you should have received a Porsche USB memory stick with the Porker.

BTW, welcome to the P!g Pen, a (small) step up from the Panamera forum.

I will do that, thanks!

The Pano forum is dead. I guess I could hang out in the 991 forum and make fun of the little back seat that they get.

It appears that the USB gift from Porsche arrives in the mail after you buy the car. So it may take a while to appear. I like it when the car companies send me trinkets. I got a nice rollerball pen from BMW once. It's too heavy, over-engineered and the ink doesn't last long before it has to be replaced. But it writes great. Resale values will be lousy though.

The Pano forum, along with the car itself, should have never been brought forth onto this Earth.
It is the final piece of the evil Dr. W's stupid chess match 10 year plan for Porsche.
It is the cherry on top of the cake that was the Cayenne, the second most ugly Porsche ever produced.
It is the Rosie O'Donnell of Porsche vehicles.
If you stare at the *** end of a Panamera long enough, you will turn to stone, after you squirt brake cleaner into your eyes in a failed attempt to erase that lasting vision.

But I digress....be sure to report back on your USB issue.

Oh, it's a step into something all right.

Hmmm. I guess I should have mentioned that I just bought this car a mere 4 days ago. But that's OK, it's not like I spent a lot of money buying a brand new Pano S.

Geez. If I wanted to be abused, I'd go back to the 993 forum and tell those guys that their cars are overpriced and the 996 was, is and always will be a superior vehicle!

4 days ... well within the "take this POS back" grace period.

BTW, not a good idea to speak badly of a 993. I've heard of people "disappearing" after doing that.

Hey, look at my "handle" name. Obviously I wouldn't have come up with that if I weren't a fan. It's just that my cool-aid is not air cooled.
