Default Oil leak immediately following oil change...

I had the Cayenne's oil changed on Friday. Much to my surprise, there was a puddle of oil on the garage floor underneath the Cayenne this morning. This isn't the first time my garage floor has been graced with a deposit of motor oil from a Porsche engine, it's just the first time the Cayenne has done it.

I took it back to the mechanic and the culprit turned out to be a cracked drain plug. I wasn't aware that this was a common issue, but my mechanic tells me that he sees it pretty often on higher mileage Cayennes. His recommendation is to replace the plug every 60,000 miles.

It's pretty surprising how much oil leaked out of such a small crack...

I've seen it happen a few times. The plugs are aluminum, and they do fatigue when tightened and loosened. Usually it happens when someone overtorques the plug, but I wouldn't doubt that at 60k or so, it could happen with normal use. I used to keep two spares in my tool box at all times just in case I didn't feel comfortable reusing an old one on a customer's car.
