Default Steering Wheel controls with new Nav Unit?

I've decided on picking up a Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT Nav Unit. Installation takes place on Friday. However, the install guy says there is no way to keep the steering wheel controls working.

Do you guys know of a way to maintain steering wheel functionality with a new Nav Unit? Is there a specific adapter we need to get?

I would think so. I have a Pioneer Nav. unit in my BMW and the steering wheel controls still work. It was installed before I bought it, so I can't help you beyond that.

Thanks! It says compatible with 05 Cayenne but not 04 Cayenne.

Since mine is an 04, think it should still work?

Steering wheel wiring harnesses didn't change between 2003 and 2006, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Hmmmm... apparently, it is going to cost $200+ in labor and parts. Maybe it's not worth it. What do you guys think?

Dude, $200 is nothing. You're going around in circles! Just spend, get what you want and be happy!

Hey! I got a pioneer head unti like you. I had the unit installed but the guy did not know how to get the steering wheel to control the unit.

Were you able to do it?
If so, how did you do it?
Do I need any module?

I have a pioneer AVH-4000NEX

any help would be appreciated.

I have a several year old Kenwood (bluetooth and iPod but no nav) in my 2005 and the steering wheel controls all work.

Find a new installer.
