Driver's power window stuck

The power window on the driver's side is stuck completely down.
Today when I opened the window a bit, I heard a click. Then the next time I tried to raise it up, it went nowhere but there was a sound like if you crush an empty PET bottle. Then I tried one more time, and the window when down another few inches instead. And after two more tries, the window went down completely. Now when I try to make it go up again, there is just this PET crushing noise for about 2 seconds.
My questions:
1) What is likely broken and how much will it cost to fix it at Porsche?
2) If I remove the door panel myself, will I be able to roll up and close the window without any new parts or repair?
3) How difficult would it be to make the repair myself.
Thanks.

1. Window regulator. Expect to pay $90 or so for parts (you'll need the regulator and 4 rivets). I usually charged 3 hours labor to do the job, because it is kind of a pain (drilling out rivets, door carrier has to be aligned afterwards, etc.)
2. You may be able to pull the window up by hand and tape it up to the frame.
3. Like I said, it's kind of a pain. I wouldn't recommend it without help from someone who's done it before.

Tim, do you remember if the regulator is still sourced from Siemens?
VW models have been plagued with window problems ever since they've been using these "lightweight" cable regulators.

Thanks for your reply Tim. Based on that info, I decided not to try to remove the door panel myself. I took the Cayenne to a 3rd party Porsche service in Los Angeles, and had the regulator replaced for $340. I spoke with the mechanic, and he said it took about 4 hours! Removing the door panel is apparently a pain in the a**. Thank god I didn't try to do it myself. :-)
