H2ONOO,

Congrats on your purchase. You might want to stop by www.freshalloy.com sometime and check out the FX35/45 message forums if you haven't already, lots of good info there.

BTW, you'll probably want to shoot me, but we got our FX45 with TECH package for mid-40's because we got the VPP deal! Sweeeeet! Congrats on getting 2K off MSRP that rocks! Especially in San Jose!!!

I'm unfamiliar with the VPP deal but I know that my dealer had Tech package FX45's for $54k and would probably have let them go for around $50k. Mid $40's is a SMOKIN deal!

Either way, I'm quite happy with the FX35 since it shares every component with the 45 except the engine. BTW, the Tech package option for an FX35 is $9,400! It has some amazing features but is more than I need especially since my wife will be driving the FX most of the time and could care less about anything other than heated seats, a kick'n sound system and most importantly, lighted vanity mirrors.

Long story short, I'm astonished at the value this vehicle offers. I couldn't find low mileage used BMW X-5's that would come close to a new FX in terms of price or features.

Nope, that you can't do as is evidenced by the BMW X5 message forum at www.bimmer.org as of late has had more discussion about the FX than the X5!!!

Did you visit www.freshalloy.com yet? Good site for info on the cars.

I did visit the freshalloy site. Very nice. However, I already spend waaaaaay too much time on the Rennlist 993 forum. The last thing I need is another forum addiction!

It's not an insurmountable issue for me (or more importantly for my wife), but having never owned or driven for that matter a Nissan or Infiniti, I definitely have to see how the Nissan-Infiniti way of doing things strikes me viscerally. I'm keeping an open mind, and it's coming down to an X5, an Audi Allroad, and the FX 35/45. If Porsche gets that Cayenne restyle in quickly maybe I would reach for an S

Car magazine, in its review of the X5, ML55, and Cayenne S (posted below), made the following unexpectedly bold and unsubstantiated statement:

quote:
Enough has already been written about the Cayenne's bulbous design. Suffice it to say that Porsche is already working on a facelift -- and a bum-lift -- for '04.

I would welcome it, if it's true. Porsche may be working on the next redesign of the Cayenne, but I imagine it would simply be as a part of the normal model evolution planning and design work, not as a special "let's-fix-the-ugliness-problem-asap" approach (how I wish). I wouldn't expect a redesign to show up until 2006/7 at the earliest, right?

John and Christian,

How do you think this will impact early sales? Since the majority opinion seems to be that the T-egg is the better looking of the two, people on the fence might switch.

Anyway, sure glad to see Porsche is seeing the light. Sometimes I wonder if there isn't marketing people in Stuttgart just pouring over sites like Rennlist. I know I sure would.

Considering how recently BMW M3 engine recall (or inspection), VAGs coil block recall (and no questions asked turbo repair), Porsche with the wiring harness, I'd say these are real examples of the power of the internet.

Cheers gents...

mpm, I don't think the initial success of the vehicle will be dented - although I wouldn't be getting into one without air-suspension and you do have to question the depreciation of early versions if they quickly do a facelift.

I remain convinced that there are enough customers world wide to shift the first two years production - then arguably a quick remodel might boost the product with a mini re-release.

It will be interesting to find out how "on-the-money" CAR is ....

And resale value on the first release will get crushed if they improve the looks. BTW, don't know about Scotland, but Boxster and 996 resale prices are in a free fall here.

To my eye it's not just the front and the rear that needs a "facelift", it's also the rockers, and the wheels - which would be the easiest to improve. Except the 19s, the factory wheels are wimpy.

I just have to say that the FX 35 is basically the same truck as a murano. The murano is BUTT ugly and I feel the FX 35 and 45 are not too great looking either. Very WIMPY looking. Not aggressive AT ALL. The Cayeene Turbo IMO is GORGEOUS. If I had the money, I would definitley buy a turbo. The FX-45 has no chance on a Cayenne Turbo lookswise, or performance wise. And if anyone thinks the exhaust note is nice on those wimpy SUV's, then make a stop at the Porsche website and click on the cayenne, THEN you'll hear a REAL exhaust sound. The exhaust on the Turbo and S are nothing short of INCREDIBLE.
