The fit and finish is superb!
What an evening, I took the X51 out for a spin and blew a left rear tire. I had to wait almost 2 Hours for Porsche roadside to have the car towed to the dealership. It was almost 9:00 PM and I was concerned about where the car would be left, so I went to the Dealer with the tow truck driver.
Well, well, you've guessed ! There was a Bassalt Black Cayenne Turbo (Sand interior) there and I got a very extensive look at it.
My impression is it is better than I expected based upon photographs, its about the size of the Grand Cherokee. The interior is (spacewise) tight, compared to my G500 and about the same as the X5. I wish it were the size of the RR
Oh but the fit and finish is absolutely superb. I think it's equal, if not better, than the the RR. The use of materials, especially the matt chrome is outstanding. The 20" wheels are as nice as anything I've ever seen.
The impression that came to mind was one of "a personal SUV" and an alternative to the family sedan. From the looks there is no mistaking its a Porsche and the view over the hood (from the drivers seat) is spot on.
I think it will be very successful. Why? because as neutral and objective (critical and analytical too!) as I was trying to be, my wife was delighted with it, and she's pretty jaded when it comes to cars (the X51 is hers).
In summary, I think some of the criticism, while valid, has been overdone.
Based upon what I saw I wouldn't cancel my order, but now I want to drive it.
The timing of purchase, now that's another strategy to be "thunk" out
