Ordering a cayenne.

Ordering a cayenne.
Guys I have to eat my words lol, I bashed the cayenne as much as anyone in here and announced things like " I shall never have an SUV with a Porsche badge in my garage" kind of things.
Guess what I'm going to do this afternoon? ORDER A CAYENNE Might get flamed and reminded about what I had said earlier about the racing heritage and all of that but after seeing a few pics I decided I won't get that new Audi A8 ( new model ) and go ahead and get the cayenne instead
I admit I was wrong about it, it's one hell of a "confused" SUV lol and the more i see pics or hear about it ( today the dealer made me sit and listen to a recording of the cayenne going full blast on some race course ) so did I stray from the true path? am I going to be a rougue and a traitor to the Porsche cause? Guys I don't think so. This is the first Porsche of it's type and since I missed out on the other models then I won't miss this.
I'll keep you informed of what I ordered and what options I got. It's going to be a cayenne S for now <img src="graemlins/icon107.gif" border="0" alt="[icon107]" />

I'm trying to convince my wife to get one. She can use it to haul the dog around and I can use it to tow a POS track car.
It will potentially replace 2 vehicles for us. Her LS430 and my F150 pickup.
Only problem is she wants to see one and drive it first. I'm sure if they are really planning to make 25K units then I'll have plenty of time to get one early next year.
Keep us updated on the ordering process, etc.

Ok, I placed my order and it looks like a Jan. 03 production date.
They showed me color samples and I ended up choosing Lapis Blue with the grey interior. Always liked Lapis but they do have some new colors. The most intersting ones is Crystel silver which is as I remember was a 911 color and Jarama beige which looks like a gold version of Seal Grey, looks real nice.
They didn't have prices and very very few pics to show me so I'm basicly winging it but I didn't skimp on the options lol might come back to haunt me When I do get the option list codes I'll post them here although the US gets diffrent codes as I noticed while peeking over the manager's head.
If anyone has any quistions just go ahead and ask and I'll try to get a response from the dealer about it BTW it's the Cayenne S and not the turbo which is a little over my budget

You've got my support targa - for what it's worth!! I think you'll be very impressed, but who knows until we all get our dirty mitts on one for a test drive.
Did you stick with the standard suspension or go for the Turbo Air Suspension Option?

Make sure you get the Porsche white stick and dark glasses so when you get out of the car you can blame your wife for the decision and deny ever seeing it.
I'm messing with ya... if you like it, go for it. Just make sure you park it next to a Pontiac Aztec to get the wow factor increased.

Guys,
If you're in the market for a pricey SUV, you might consider test-driving the '03 Range Rover. It bears no mechanical resemblance to past offerings by the Rover company: BMW 4.4L engine, BMW 5-speed auto transmission, 4-wheel independent suspension, etc.
It may not have the acceleration of a Cayenne TT, but I can personally attest to its comfort with long, sweeping corners at speeds approaching 100 mph. Rock solid, and a "real truck" - if anything that refined can qualify as a real truck!

You're right Anir, the Range Rover will be the logical competitor with the Cayenne in pricing terms but also, sadly, in the "to be seen in stakes".
The Range has been a stunning off road vehicle ever since it's inception. Originally designed to be used by farmers and capable of having the interior hosed out!! Instead however it's success has instead been largely in sales to those who associate wealth and status with it. Hence the preponderance of the things in cities such as London, where if they are lucky if the darn thing mounts a kerb....
Since the 70's it has become more and more expensive, maintaining it's heritage by always being the most capable offroad device this side of a unimog. It has however been the wealthy checkbook holders who the machine has been aimed at regardless of likely use.
As those who have read my previous posts know, I'm pretty pro-Cayenne for various reasons. I do however see remarkable similarities between the Cayenne and Range Rover.
Both are compromises, coming from different sides of the dual purpose coin and engineered to huge lengths to overcome natural deficiencies in the other "purpose". The Range has ben designed with incredible off road potential and then engineered to have good road manners. The Cayenne approaches the compromise from the road side, with clever electronic trickery to make it supposedly remarkably good offroad too.
Both are heavy bricks which designers have had their work cut out to try and make attractive. Having seen the new Range at work here in Scotland, the initial novelty and impression of clever design touches has personally given over to the conclusion that it's a slab sided ship.....
Both are also going to be sold primarily to people who will hardly ever use the off road potential. For that reason I reckon the Cayenne is the more logical approach to the compromise.
I'd still own a new Range - but that's because I would use the thing off road on a frequent basis and then put up with the road manners. I would have a Cayenne for the same reason, gaining satisfaction I suspect in it's better than class standard road holding and making do with it's off road compromise.... but only if the old bank manager could be won over.......

Seriouisly, I’m astonished by the amount of people who buys a vehicle without seeing, touching and most of all driving it. And we are talking about a vehicle which is first of its kind to the manufacturer & totally different what they've made before.
Talk about buying only because of the badge...

Thank you Christian for your support. We get the off-road package as standard so that choise was made up for me and it does come with the air suspension. I also ordered 20" wheels
Othello lol I might as well get an Aztec and park it so the Cayenne will always look good
Anir, Yes I test drove the Range Rover for a full day and I really liked it alot. The quality is light years ahead of the last RR and it kinda felt like I was driving my BMW 740 which I had at the time. Congrats on being a new reporter in 911 & Porsche world
Flying Finn, I'm going to test drive the Cayenne when the dealer gets the demo around November time. If I didn't like it, the dealer already knows that I can back-off from the deal without paying any penelties. You might be right in assuming that the badge was a big reason why I wanted one, it's not the major reason why I'm buying the Cayenne but it ranks up there and I have no problem with admiting this.

OK, so that's how it works... I thought you don't get your deposit back if you don't like it. Makes much more sense now!
Anir,
I agree with you, I saw the (RR) photo that you posted, that's one nice looking SUV and I'm sure it's good too.

Flying Finn, I was editing the post when you responded but to expand further, I won't pay any kind of deposit. I've been buying cars from them for a long time plus the owner is a personal friend of mine so I get a few more perks

So run this by me Finn, you're happy to write off a vehicle without seeing, touching and most of all driving it......
And if I'm right you've also made up your mind about a vehicle which is first of its kind to the manufacturer & totally different what they've made before.... where surely with no prior experience of driving their attempt at this type of vehicle, such an attitude is a touch premature?
Talk about being precious about a badge.....
