Post Engines for Cayenne -speculation and facts

I have heard the 6 will be a similar to the volkswagen vr6, but I don't know much about the V8's. The turbo is reportedly going to put our 450hp and the v8 325-350. What has everyone heard? Did PAG start from the ground up on all 3 engines?

The V8 Turbo and Non Turbo are 4.5 Liters with 450 HP and 340 HP respectively.

The 6 was to be the VW version but PAG scraped that idea and is now building their own 6 from the ground up. The V8 motors are also all new by Porsche.

Is the V6 going to be a popular version. Will it have enuf "umpf" to hold it's own with other SUV's of similar size that offer V8's at a lower total cost?

Bill,
good info, were you at the dealer meeting here in LA on the 6th? I know GM's/Owners of Porsche dealers can not divulge too much info.

My dealer was invited to California to see it. They were practically "handcuffed, and gagged" as he put it. Everything was very hush-hush. They were brought into a room, and had exactly 30 minutes to look at it, and touch it and sit in it.

But he told me it was delayed again till February 2003.

I have heard the same thing about the delay. I know a GM pretty well here in So Cal and he has been very tight lipped. The early 2003 release has been mentioned by a few sources.

I am sure it is due to the economic climate.
It sounds like there is enough interest and dealer orders (at least in North America) to get the ball rolling though. I guess a couple more months won't hurt...it will give me more time to decide what car to sell!

I was fortunate enough to make the preview, and yes they did gag us pretty good.

I will say that the Cayenne exceeded my expectations in every catagory. Now some may say that it is the dealer in me coming out, but the truth is I was not near as excited about this vehicle until I actually got to see it.

There are some great options being offered that no other SUV will have and others that are typical Porsche.

18" Wheels standard with a 19" and 2 20" models avaialble.

There is not a picture I have seen that does this vehicle justice,

As for the 6 Cyl motor having the power. That is one thing Porsche is working on and why they opted for their own motors in each vehicle.

The Cayenne is a winner!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

another board(to remain nameless) has a post stating PAG is not going to make the V6. I guess we have to take everything with a grain of salt until "official news" is released.

It's fun to speculate and anticipate though....that is half the fun

I just ordered a Cayenne Turbo yesterday after canceling my SL55 order. The Cayenne replaces my daily driver, a ML400 CDI. My dealer told me that the Turbo has only 400 HP, a correction from the 450 HP he mentioned to me a few weeks ago. The V8 without Turbo has 315 HP. These figures have to be taken with caution because Porsche did not claim any HP figures for the Cayenne. There are lots of rumors but I think we have to wait and see the final product. I requested Cayenne pictures from my dealer but he does not have any. That means that I bought a car which I even did not see yet. Am I dumb ? You can bet on that but I need a powerful SUV as a daily driver and I hope it is as powerful as everybody hopes it is.

Pturbo,
Did you put in an order or just give a deposit?

I didn't think dealers were taking orders yet.

I signed a order contract for immediate delivery as soon as the Cayenne Turbo is available. My dealer does not know if there is a manual transmission on the Cayenne Turbo but I ordered Tiptronic anyway. Some nice rebate too. My dealer who is an old family friend promised me his second Cayenne Turbo, his first one is for him and his family. He hopes to get at least two Cayenne Turbo immediately after Cayenne introduction on french market. I live in France, I do not know how it works with ordering in the USA.
