DVD/rear view camera
Just became the proud papa of a pepper. Will pick her up early next week.
The only way my wife would let me get this over something else is if I got a DVD player installed for the kids. Has anyone done so? Did you get the roof mounted one or the headreast kind?
Also I know that because of the MOST stereo, I can't wire sound from the DVD player through the speakers, but is it possible to use an FM Modulator to get sound from the speakers that way?
Another question I have is, I really wanted to get a rear backup camera like the MDX, but where could I install a screen upfront on the dash? I don't have the PCM option.

As an owner of an Infiniti FX45 Tech (the SUV that Excellence Magazine said that the Cayenne should have looked like) which comes with both a rear DVD entertainment package and a backup camera that displays in the Nav screen up front that we enjoy both features very much.
In fact, when I get into other cars now I'm like "Where's the backup camera??"
The DVD option is not only nice for the kids, but my wife and I sat in the backseat one night and watched part of a movie just for kicks, and if you decide to go "parking" you've got your own theater now, just like the old drive-in movies!
I don't know where you can get these extra options for the Cayenne, but I've seen DVD screens/players at most Best Buy / Circuit City type shops. I think the backup camera is going to be harder to do, but you might check with Nav-Tv.com and see if they have anything as they are commonly modifying Nav/DVD/TV systems in SUVs of all sorts. Might be a little pricey though.

TV/DVD is "in the pipeline" for PCMII systems. The "backup" camera is loved by some, hated by others, and ignored by most. Could wind up being the "talking dashboard" of the 00's.

Any decent car audio shop can do the DVD thing.
We use a Panasonic portable DVD player for one of the cars and carry it in the kid's backpack as a portable pacifier and hypnotic trance inducer ... thanks Pixar!
The DVD audio can probably find a simple RCA port (as mentioned, perhaps accessible from the A/V button, but that might involve understanding MOST.)
We use an FM modulator on one car and it's a pain in the petunias. The sound quality is fair enough (for an SUV) but needed to flip a switch and pick an FM station is a bit clumsy. Still, for the most part, the DVD runs through infrared to headphones so the kid can watch something while we listen to something else in front.
As for the rearview camera, there's a wide selection of aftermarket systems.

The trick is finding something that doesn't look like it comes from RadioShack.
The FX system is very nice -- I'd like to have something like that on the Tahoe for lining up the trailer in one go, or backing into the garage and snug up to wall.

I installed an Audiovox 10 disk DVD changer and 10.4 inch roof mounted screen in my S (Install performed by CarToys). The changer fit into the recess on the left rear of the cargo area. Sounds works through an FM Demod and it sounds very good. I also installed XM radio through the same demod and it sounds as good as the XM receiver I have in my Surbuban. Total cost $3200. My daughter listens to movies through wireless headsets. If you are going to have it done, make sure you take it to a shop where they will dye the plastic mounting attachment for the screen. My installed matched the roof liner color so well that most people think it was a factory install.

It sure beat those chirping high pitched things that dump trucks use when they back up.
As far as being ignored by most, I'd say most people just haven't seen one yet or used one. It's just too bad there isn't any way to have the screen snap a picture of what you see behind you and save it for later, I've seen some interesting things in that camera...
The other thing I should add is that the camera works well in the dark with only the lights from the backup bulbs illuminating the road behind you, on the FX they've built in a light sensitivity adjustment and you'd swear the camera was showing you a daytime view.

Found an article about a multimedia/DVD solution for the Cayenne made by an independent German technician (Reinald Mattes Ingenieurtechnik and scanned from an "autobild offroad" report): DVD-player and -changer, lcd screens in the headrests, tv and game console optional, prices start at 6238 Euro :

Region codes can be reset a few times before the unit freezes.
PAL or NTSC is irrelevant to DVD.
LCD panels run horizontal line native resolution and the interpolation from other formats (DVD, broadcast etc.)
Anyway, back to the question("rear backup camera,") here's a pricey but effective solution

Lexus RX330 has (bizarre) rear view cam with lines to help the "parallel parking challenged."
