Default Major Maintenance = $1,700 at Porsche North Scottsdale AZ

Wanted to run some numbers by the forum. Porsche North Scottsdale quoted me $1,700 to do a major maintenance (spark plugs, oil change) at 72K miles. This also includes changing the belts ($400 charge included) as well.

Does this sound like a competitive price compared to other Porsche service depts in the US?

Funny, I just found this PDF on Porsche's site and it says I do not need to do the maintenance until 80K miles. Why would the dealer tell me 72K Miles?

For the same reason they charge $1700 for plugs and belts, I guess.

Cause they know they won't see you for another 15000 miles which is a year from now.

LOL ain't that the truth!

Get a quote from a reputable indy shop, I'd bet it's at least 50% cheaper.

2008s have their own special maintenance schedule. In 2009, they went back to 20k mile increments. For 2008, the increments are 36k, 72k, 108k, 144k, etc. for major maintenance.
But yes, in my opinion, that is high. As a tech, I know that that service takes 3 hours or less, (even though my dealer used to charge 8). The belt is a 1 hour job by the book, so $400 seems pretty high for that too.

Thanks for the feedback. It's strange that Porsche has not updated their maintenance schedule to reflect 72K instead of 80K.

Does the belt have to be done? I didn't see anything in the maintenance schedule about that.

I think it is mileage or time. Maybe they did not change the belt at 32k, so then it would be time to change it at the next spark plug interval which is 72k??

I changed my serpentine belt at ~64k mi., there wasn't a crack in in. It could have easily gone to 90k. Changing the belt is not exactly a breeze but it's pretty close, most difficult is getting a 28mm (?) open end wrench. One suggestion for anyone doing it is to let the belt hang (to get out the kinks) before you do the job. A belt just out of the pkg. is kinked and doesn't stretch between the individual pulley's as easily (AMHIK).

I'll do it for a bottle of Remy Excellence XO... we'll buy the parts are Sunset Porsche.

You keep the difference.

Nothing in that "major" maintenance is worth $1700.

Nothing.

My local dealer in Houston quoted a similar figure for an 05 CTT. I had a reputable indie do the work for around $900.00.

It's a 30mm wrench, and you're right. I don't think I've seen a Cayenne yet that actually needed a new belt.
There is no service interval for the drive belt, the schedule just says to check its condition during the major maintenance.

Check with Beck's in the airpark. They do a lot of Cayenne work and are about 2 miles from Porsche N. Scottsdale. Probably save yourself $800.

Jay, it does sound a bit steep. Then again, the dealer charges $32 per spark plug which can be had for a fraction of that price anywhere else.

BTW, nice to see you back in the P!G pen again. Now, when do you think you'll get rid of that Honda Fit image you so proudly display?
