Post 600 mile TT update

Strictly my personal views, etc., etc.

My 5th Porsche, just not a 911 this time.

Been driving it in manual more often than not, this thing pulls in a deceiving fashion. Physics being what they are, the "feel" is not quite as there but make no mistake.

Down points: other cars do not expect SUVS to be as quick and by nature tend to pull in front of you. Sunglass hatch sucks. Still arguing with the NAV.

MPG is 12 but then again I'm used to 8+.

High points: too many to mention. Fantastic control in all go / stop / turn facets, plus the visibility in this overcrowded land of big vehicles.

On a lazy lunch today, windows down, manual mode, for a second you forget the size and weight.

And on the highway, this thing must have a huge intimatidation factor as the left lane clears faster than on most cars.

Brakes are absolutely incredible for the weight.

And the inside spoils of the stereo, PCM, working AC and such are just the cream on the top.

Not a 911 of course, but if circumstances are against one, then I can't think of any other substitute!

Frankly, Porsche should be giving away test drives at al possible qualified public gatherings. After driving one there is a huge % that they will "need" one.

If not a 911, then this has got to be it.

Great short review!

I haven't had any problems with my sunglass holder but I am with you on the transmission. I find myself coming up behind Grandpa Kettle and when I need to pass have to manually kick it down to get around fast enough. Folks drive way too fast, so merging into the next lane has to be done with a quickness!

Please clarify "Still arguing with the NAV"

Just curious. I always keep in manual mode. How many of you guys keep in manual mode close to 100 percent of the time?

I use mine about 50/50, but often kick it down on the wheel when in auto!

Also 50/50 with frequent interventions on the steering wheel when in auto mode.

as an early foe of the looks [and they've grown on me as the rig is such a performer], i can only congratulate Porsche on an outstanding truck, and beg them build a bigger one.

a major, unqualified success!!!

I tried keeping it on manual mode, but I found that the temperature gauge got close to being at the 3/4 mark all the time, where normally in auto it is just a tick past 1/2. Has anyone else experienced this? If it is normal for the car to run a little hotter when in manual mode, then I will go back to doing it full-time.

EuroCarNut,

Hmm, you are right. Since your post, as a test, I've made it a point to drive either exclusively in manual or auto on my work commute.

Consistent traffic & distance (~25 miles, mixed highway & speeds), and sure enough in Manual the temp is up by a tick.

But IMO nothing significant enough to stop driving in Manual.

Matter of fact, it is a first for me to be in a Porsche that can keep the temp near "Normal".

If anything my concern was MPG, but then again M vs Auto doesn't seem to make much of a difference either.

Next topic: it'd be great to gain some more engine noise inside to get a better feel of where the car is at. Don't want to make more noise outside because I've had people commenting that it is plenty loud from behind. Thoughts?

I drive mine in manual about half the time. I usually leave it in 5th gear on the highway. It's great in second and third gears. I love how you can redline it unlike previous 911s I've driven with Tip that would up shift at least 400 RPM before redline.

Just got my TT Tuesday--and notice the warning that the back hatch is open. What's the fix on this? Dealer only or something I can do?

Wes, I've yet to hear of someone having a problem with the hatch.

Do you think it is just a sensor failure or that there is something physically wrong that prevents it from closing 100%? Sounds like a dealer trip.

How's the TT otherwise?
