Post What is the wheel well (sp?) light for?

Noticed today that there is a light in the front wheel wells, right by the side markers but pointing towards the tire.

They turn on with the headlights.

Just curious about their existance.

So stupid SUV drivers can see when you want to turn. Its a directional, aka blinker...

Hmm, thanks but nope, that was my first thought as well so I turned on the blinker and no effect on this well thing.

Again, this is INSIDE the well.

And not sure if you are including me in the "stupid SUV driver" bit, so reserving further comment...

They are for backing up. They light the ground behind the front wheel.

I thought they were for avoiding pissing on your wheels if you have to pull over to the side of the higway at night =)

Ok, so far I like the pissing theory best.

So no one else curious about this? Is this not standard on all C's?

Its just a side marker lamp. All US cars have to have an amber side marker. It serves the same function as the one on the 986/996.

Also noticed that it comes on when unlocking the car, so maybe it is a "look at the ground" convenience thing.

Weird spot though, not very efficient there.

If you look at the 986/996 they also shine torwards the rear. I just went and played around with it and it comes on during unlocking along with all the parking lamps if you have the delay lighting activated. Other wise it dosent come on. So it is just the corner lamp. I beleive by US law you have to be able to see the amber from the rear 3/4 view and without it protruding from the wheel well you wouldnt be able to acomplish that. Hope this helps.
