Post TV test Cayenne S - BMW X5 4,6iS - Hartge Range Rover 5.0

A comparison test by German TV car magazine "motorvision" between Cayenne S, BMW X5 4.6iS and Hartge Range Rover 5.0:

If you want to watch (and listen to the different sounds):

<a href="http://motorvision.sport1.de/coremedia/generator/www.motorvision.de/Rubriken/Videos/Motorvision/Videos/Vergleichstest/Paare/mv43_203er_20Vergleich.html" target="_blank">Just choose desired connection (DSL or ISDN) and player</a>. Before you choose make sure that "Test: Vergleichstest", "Marke: Paare" and "Typ: SUVs von BMW, Rover und Porsche" are all marked red.

Sorry, in German only.

ngfan, since I don't speak German (unfortunately), maybe you can share the "bottom line" with us.

Did they draw any conclusions?

Overall verdict: SUV's in general and these ones in particular are no winner cars as they just consume too much fuel (ecologically unfriendly), they are too big (for crowded European cities) and too heavy. Winner of the comparison: Cayenne S, BMW second, Rover third.

Porsche:
positive: sports car-like handling onroad and excellent offroad capabilities, brakes, price tag
negative: interior quality, fuel consumption

BMW:
positive: good handling onroad, comfort, power, brakes
negative: offroad capabilities, price tag, fuel consumption

Range Rover tuned by Hartge:
positive: offroad capabilities, interior, comfort
negative: onroad handling (too soft), price tag, fuel consumption, brakes

Do you know why the price is a positive for the Porsche and negative for the BMW? Aren't they roughly the same price or do prices differ in Germany?

Cayenne S starts at 60.200 €

IMO it all depends on the options you choose as the BMW comes with a better standard equipment.

There's some food for thought. Is the BMW worth more to Germans than the Porsche?

At present exchange rate that BMW would cost $93K- as much as the Cayenne Turbo (even with a few options) does here in the states. The Cayenne S would be roughly $72K.

Here in the US a Cayenne S starts at around $60K while the 4.6 (fully optioned) costs about $68K. That's before discounts would be applied to either car. So similarly equipped I'd say they're about equal in price- and I would guess the same discounts could probably be found on both cars making them both 3 to 5% cheaper.

Here is another, much more dynamic comparison test (don't do this on your freeway <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ) by "motorvision/sport auto TV" between Cayenne S and BMW X5 4.6iS at "Hockenheimring" race track:

If you want to watch (and listen to the different sounds):

<a href="http://motorvision.sport1.de/coremedia/generator/www.motorvision.de/Rubriken/Videos/Motorvision/Videos/Vergleichstest/Paare/mv43_203er_20Vergleich.html" target="_blank">Just choose desired connection (DSL or ISDN) and player</a>. Before you choose make sure that "Test: Vergleichstest", "Marke: Paare" and "Typ: Porsche Cayenne vs. x5" are all marked red.

Again, in German only.
