variable assist power steering?
Has anyone driven both the "regular" power steering and the variable assist power steering? I'd appreciate a hands on description of the differences..

There was a post on another board by a guy who drove both and said he only noticed a difference at very slow speeds -- I believe he siad the steering felt lighter with the power assist. I have the non-assisted version and have no trouble turning the wheels at any speed.

And that might have been me.
I've driven several Ss without Servotronic and now 2 with. The steering on both is very appropriately firm on the street; it's at low speeds that the effort required is much lower. I didn't guess that yesterday's S had Servotronic until I pulled back into the dealer's lot.
For Ss, I feel air suspension is a very valuable option, and I suppose I'd spend the $270 or something for the Servotronic steering. I'm also glad my Turbo will come with it.

I think I posted somewhere that I couldnt really tell the difference. However, after two weeks in a car with it, and driving one today without, I can definately tell the difference. At $270.00 its probably something worth having.
More boost while stopped and at parking lot speed. I like it.
Peace

I read a review of an Audi or BMW, in 'Sports Car International', I believe, that had Servotronic variable-boost PS. The writers really didn't like the lack of road/vehicle information from that system. They complained that it was impossible to feel when the tires' adhesion limits were being approached or exceeded. Of course, the Porsche Cayenne version could be, and we hope is, tuned MUCH differently. I've yet to read anyone complaining about lack of road feel in a Cayenne Turbo.
