Any S owners upgrade to air suspension ?
Hi guys,
As you may see from another post, I test drove an S at the weekend, and following the drive asked about delivery dates for certain things.
Salesman tells me air suspension is on limited supply, so if I order it for an S it will push the delivery back by around 4 months minimum.
So, did all you S owners upgrade to air ?
If not, are you happy with the standard springs ?
I like the idea of the car lowering at higher speeds, the option of a sport setting, and also the ability for my wife to be able to reach the glass hatch to close it. Its a 2k GBP option here in the UK though, so wondering if it is worth the wait and expense...

John,
My S was scheduled for delivery early this month but got delayed until July/August due to limited supply of air suspension. I wasn't happy about it (of course) but didn't want to sacrifice this option (love the features, I believe I need it for my 20" to get a decent ride, got used to it in my S-class). I still believe it's worth the wait. Good point about the delay was the recent availability of sports seats.

John, I did not "upgrade" to air suspension, the S that I bought already had it on it. My dealer couldn't find the S that I ordered so to placate me and probably save his life, he sold me the one they were going to keep on the showroom floor.
There is a remarkable difference in the manner the "steel' and "air" sprung Cayenne's handle. I live in Colorado and we have plenty of hilly, twisty and broken up roads. The "steel" S takes these conditions nicely but you get a increased sense of control with the air suspension. The most noticeable of all the features on when you are driving on twisty roads, the "air" S compensates, through the use of accelerometers to keep the S quite level, no matter how much dipping and twisting that the road induces. The "steel" S had more noticeable body lean and increased lateral roll, not to the point of losing control, but it is noticeable.
I have no experience driving in Europe so I can not comment on the conditions of your roads, but as far as driving the Cayenne in the mountain regions of the US. I would definitely prefer the "air" option on the Cayenne.
Best of luck!!

Thanks guys.
I can only find one car with air suspension on it available, and that is reserved
If I want to wait until September on deliveries I may get lucky. Might have to wait until then to get what I want anyway.
I live in a rural (for South east England) location, with narrow twisty roads and lots of bumps & potholes. We drove the 'steel' S around some of these roads, and I drove the 'air' Touareg round the same roads and couldn't tell a great deal of difference, which is why I thought I'd ask.
Cheers,
John.
