I hear a lot about backorders, waiting lists, etc.; my take is this must be for the TT. At the local dealer near me, last week there were 6 Cayenne Ss sitting on the lot. This week, the same 6 are there plus 3 more Ss. Same TT is sitting inside the glassed in portion. How is it at other dealers? Regards Al

My local dealer has 9 S's and no TT's in stock (1 2003,8 2004's). The rest of their Porsche stock is 4 boxsters and 4 911's. They also have 11 X5's in stock.
6 of the 9 Cayennes have the "Havanna/Sand Beige" interior. None have air suspension. The dealer doesn't seem to be interested in discounting and I think most of the vehicles they have in stock will be there a quite a while. They do still have slots available to order what you want.
Back in March, I was ready to buy and had put down a deposit on one that came close to what I wanted and included a bunch of extras I'd never order. But after I saw what a "glut" of the "sold out for years" vehicle there was I cancelled and decided to wait until I could get exactly the options I wanted. They're now available but I'm still holding out for "paint to sample".

A quick check of PCNA dealers in the Washington radius shows probably a hundred sitting on lots waiting for buyers. Even the small dealers had ten or twelve.
I was astonished at how many there were. Lots of Boxsters and 911s too.

Gotta chuckle a bit - I do remember some major league "complaining" about P dealers having no cars to shop, drive, etc... a couple of years ago -
So having inventory is a bad thing?? Most (read non enthusiasts) want to see, touch, and then buy - and given the sales rate, there's between 60 to 90 days worth... not bad.

Our local dealer has 17 Cayennes in stock, 15 S and 2 TT's. Aristocrat in KC. They still want MSRP for some reason, but maybe they would deal if you were 'serious'. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
What are the May sales figures looking like?

Ken,
Maybe the reason they quoted you MSRP is that they know you are not serious. Maybe that's just their way of trying to get you to leave them alone, as they probably know how much you enjoy your fx.

George from MD -
I keep hearing the radio ad from the dealer in Hunt Valley, MD (Valley Motors?) stating that "the Cayenne has taken the area by storm" in spite of the fact that I've only seen a total of TWO! on the road so far. I must admit that I was also turned off by the dealer when the ad says "whether this is your first Porsche or your TENTH". I had my 356 Speedster for 24 years and have now had my 911SC for 11 - these are long-term relationships. If I could afford both cars, I'd still have the Speedster. The only way owning ten Porsches makes sense to me is if you can own them all at the same time!

Actually I've seen three on the road- one was provided (by Hunt Valley I think) at a Summit Point event so I don't know if you could count that one. I saw an S in seal grey (if that's what the color is called) parked locally and I saw a black Turbo in Georgetown Sunday morning. The seal grey one had big wheels and tires and looked very nice. The Turbo wasn't that impressive and the one at Summit was a metallic blue which looked horrible with what I call the "pontiac" wheels.
I took the Metro last week and saw a bunch of em parked behind Rockville PA but that doesn't really count as "on the road" does it?

Actually I have discovered the source of the standard Cayenne S wheel: <a href="http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=cayenne&Number=9752&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o =&fpart=1" target="_blank">Mystery solved!</a>
