It seems to me that VW might let Lamborghini use the Cayenne/Touareg platform with the Gallardo drive-train to build an exotic SUV.
Of course this is "out there" but it's not without precedent and not without direct competition.
Lambo tried a Hummer-like SUV (V12 LM002 etc.) and Maserati (Kubang) amongst others are coming (if very late) to the SUV gravy train.
Imagine just taking the Cayenne as it stands today: pull out the Turbo motor, drop in the V10; e-gear shifting; Gallardo/Murcielago family resemblance in the nose and tail; make the car two metres wide.
If I had just a shred of talent with Paint Shop Pro or one of those drawing tools I'd cut and paste just to see what it looked like.
Cheers,
ps. Yes, a very slow day for me ...

Good thoughts, but the V10 is pretty wide - and there's not a great deal of room inside of the front suspension - thus the really wild plumbing of the Cayenne TT....
I've always wondered what a really first rate "Wild" SUV design would be....

Lamborghini LM02 - less SUV, more Hummer......
450bhp, 5.2 V12, 0-100 Kph 8.5s, Top speed 121mph built '86-'92, 301 produced (do I win a nerd of the day award?)

LM-002 -- incredibly, people still want these things so badly they push the price up. Imagine the major service on that V12.
I may be crazy, but given all the effort going into high-end SUVs lately -- BMW insiders leaked plans for the next generation M5 V10 to go into the next X5 for the '05 MY -- it seems reasonable to expect that VW will use all of its applicable brands to leverage the investment in the shared platform under the Cayenne and Touareg.

Here is a page that goes into great detail on all the various Lamborghini SUVS dating back to 1977. People usually dont hear much about anything but lamborghini's flagship model.

Its not surprizing that Lambo would make an SUV.
The story I got was, The founder of Lambo was a Ferrari nut, that manufactured tracters. He got into an arguement with Enzo. Then hired some of his engineers and launched Lambo.
What surprizes me is that they're not the pioneer in the upscale SUV market. Shows how a lousy marketing dept can impact a company.

Actually, Ferrucio Lamborghini bought a Ferrari and was pissed at how "not good" it was. It wasnt up to his specs and decided to prove Ferrari that they were the inferior gt and sportscar builder. So Lamborghini set off into sports cars from the tractor market. Well, obviously he wa sright, Lamborghini has blown the doors off Ferrari countless times on the street cars. The Miura was pushing what most modern sports cars stll try to achieve now, but in the 60s. The LM002 is huge. Its a big scary truck. I could never see it catching on in the american market. It makes the hummer look tame. With Audi money, lamborghini is really starting to move now. I think their future is quite promising. They still hold true to their heritage and build style and continue to bring out shocking new cars.

No, Ken, this is actually a good topic. This is a true supercar that was one of the original truly capable off-roaders that also had great on-road performance, much like a Cayenne. It's those silly little crossover SUVs from French owned Japanese companies that have no idea what off-roading is that are a little off-topic.

Speaking of Cayenne platform...i think any company that has merged German and Italian technology has come out with amazing vehicles. Look at the Stola. Boxster gone italian. Take the Zonda, Italian with german engine. If Lamborghini is now to use the Cayenne platform i think it will be unbelievable! Think of the awesomest SUV out there (Cayenne) styled and driven by the passion applied by the best Italian design houses! Untouchable!
