Put a Deposit on a 2013 Cayenne (V6)
Been lurking in this forum and other like it for a while. My daughter and son-in-law recently had their first born and need a larger vehicle to fit their family. I have a 2008 Toyota Sienna Limited which is larger than what I need for most trips. I've been trying to decide on a replacement for the past few months so that I can give the van to them and cure two issues at once. We test drove a base Cayenne Saturday and put in our deposit for a 2013 Cayenne the same day with a delivery sometime in the Aug-Sept timeframe.
This is the build and rational behind it. Its pretty highly optioned and I know it will depreciate massively as soon as it rolls off the lot. If I wanted an investment with appreciation, I would not buy a car (or truck or boat). I tend to keep vehicles for a long time (with the exception of the Sienna for the reason cited) so it won't be worth much by the time I am done with it. Might as well enjoy the options while I can. The V6 power is more than adequate for the intended purpose. If I want more power, I'll hop into my 997.
2013 Cayenne V6
8 speed Tiptronic
Dark Blue Metallic Exterior
Standard Interior in Luxor Beige - I debated the two tone leather packages and really like a couple of them. However, I am buying this as a truck and it probably will be treated as such. I don't want to worry about hurting the leather when I am hauling plants home from the nursery. The sand beige interior of my 997 has been fairly durable and it has seen its share of abuse.
Premium Package Plus - Seat ventilation has become a must since my wife hit the age of "hot flashes". This is part of the package along with several other convenience items
Bose Audio Package
Trailer Hitch - for bringing home those large items that I would normally stuff in the van. Now I need to find a small trailer.
Roof Rails and Molding with Matte Aluminum look finish - I like the contrast of the aluminum against the dark blue. Purely a personal preference.
Thermally and Noise Insulated privacy glass - Was on the fence on this one. Reviews on this forum and others seem to indicate that the advantages can outweigh the disadvantages. I don't use radar detectors and there is a solution for the toll transponder (even if I do have to stick my arm out the moonroof).
PDCC - I like to go around corners fast. This is one of the options that set the Cayenne apart from other similar trucks.
Air Suspension - Our elderly moms live with us. Having the butt height adjustable during loading along with the generous grab handles is a big advantage to us.
18" Cayenne Wheels - I know that they are not the best looking, but I can always upgrade to better wheels after the fact.
Heated Three Spoke Multifunction Steering Wheel - I really like the controls on the wheel for the for the PCM compare to other makes, so this was a no brainer. Part of the premium package anyway.
4-zone Climate Control - See hot flashes above. My wife will freeze you out given the chance. My hands have gone numb on numerous occasions with her temperature and vent selections when she has used the vehicle last. The extra vent per rear passenger was a must have.
Porsche Crest on the Front and Rear headrest - simply bling
Center Console armrest with model specific logo - more bling
Door guards in stainless steel illuminated - even more bling, but a pain to install after the fact.
Porsche rear seat entertainment - Overpriced, but my wife and son have used this feature extensively during our family vacations. Helps make the trip hours pass for them.
Compass display on instrument panel - Altitude feature is useless in Florida, but will be an interesting reference during vacations into the mountains. Not a massively expensive option.
Total MSRP was 83310, discounted to an even 79000. I know its high for a V6, but the ride and performance is much better than the Audi or Lexus equivalents that I test drove. Is it a perfect solution, no. But it works for me.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to post their opinions and experiences to help me in my own decision. Now the long wait begins for a future PIG owner.

It is a well established (some would even go so far as to argue legendary) fact ... no, not fact...more like Commandment .... that the new Cayenne V6's actually DO appreciate in value
So, congratulations on your appreciating P!g.

To the OP, I would only suggest scrapping the rear seat entertainment for a couple of iPads. Much more functional IMO and less expensive as an added bonus, but it sounds like you know what you want. The standard AC is dual control if you didn't know already, that may help with your decision on the 4-zone.
Lots of bling in your choices, but hard to argue with your own desires!
Great build, congrats!

I tried both Porsche of Orlando and Porsche of Melbourne. I am a previous customer of Porsche of Melbourne and they came down to an acceptable price. I've been doing all of my maintenance and upgrades to the 997.2 there with more service business soon, so that may have been a factor (about to hit 40k miles on that car). On the 2012s with the same options, Truecar.com lists the average price at 77500 with a good price at 78200 or below. Based on the Truecar.com website, I still paid above market average for the area. Used it as a negotiating tool whether Truecar's data is right or not. Then again, maybe I caught the salesman on a good day. As always, your mileage may vary.

if my cayenne is appreciating, i need to stop going to payday loan...... maybe a 2006 Tit.S just don't get no respect (depreciating like a house in Vegas) but my other ride is too sweet to sell.. '02 911 Targa just checked is worth about what I paid for it 3.5 years ago according to KBB...of course it was one of 2 cars sold in all of Nov. 2008 at the local Porsche dealer!

Yes they do, about $700 among various add on fees. This was added to the negotiated price. A new tag was $450 additional, but I am going to transfer the old tag and make my son-in-law get a new one for the van he is getting. The major hit though was the 6% sales tax. Could be worse

Clearly you haven't been paying attention in class

Apparently, this never gets old for you...

Actually I am trying to be serious...it feels "odd"
If you search the P!g Pen, you will find several posts from our resident Cayenne V6 Day Trader, Riley, who IIRC has sold 2 V6 P!gs for a substantial profit.
I am just dejected, bitter and jealous. I am looking out into Larry's garage at the Bugatti Veyron and wondering why it isn't appreciating in value
I knew I should have listened and traded it in for the new V6 Cayenne.
